The event was a success and now McInnes has landed a public acknowledgement from the club who honed him during his early career.

A social media post from the club's official account said: "Off The Bar with Derek McInnes

"An incredible total of just under ﾣ3,000 has been raised towards the Fighting Fund following Tam Cowan's recent night with Morton Hall of Famer, Derek McInnes! We would like to say a huge thank you to Tam and Derek for their support of the Fighting Fund.

"Every penny raised, whether it's a donation, ticket sale, hospitality purchase or sponsorship, will continue to make a difference and help support the future of Greenock Morton Football Club. Tickets remain available to purchase for Tam Cowan's second night at The Albany on Sunday 8th November and donations to the Fighting Fund can be made at any point through Fanbase!"
