Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams has been making headlines in the past few weeks, not just for his performance but also for his cleats.
In each of Chicago’s last two games, Williams has worn Caddix cleats with the logo clearly visible. Since Caddix is not an NFL-approved logo, he has been fined a total of $35,823 for the cleats. Nonetheless, he refuses to hide the logo or wear different cleats as a matter of principle, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport.
The main attraction to Caddix cleats is that they are designed to improve player safety, specifically knee and ankle injuries. Especially after his hamstring injury that caused him to miss multiple weeks, it is understandable why Williams is choosing to prioritize his health by wearing these cleats.
Williams is not the only NFL player wearing Caddix cleats as there are approximately for 40 players wearing these cleats. Former NFL quarterback Joe Flacco is also an investor in the brand and future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady has also been connected to the brand. Both Flacco and Caddix CEO, Jack Rasmussen, have offered to pay Williams’ fines for wearing the cleats and displaying the brand.
There has been speculation the Bears could be fined during their Monday night game against the Seattle Seahawks or that Williams may not be allowed to play with the Caddix logo showing. When head coach Ben Johnson was asked about that, he simply said that Williams would not do anything to hurt the team.
Even if Chicago is not flagged and he is allowed to play with the Caddix logo showing during the game, Williams most likely will be fined again.
