Lazio’s Turin win leaves Juventus eight points off Serie A lead
Unmarked players leave a Turin stadium pitch after Lazio’s decisive win over Juventus.

Juventus lost 3-0 at home to Lazio on Sunday, October 18, as goals from Oliver Provstgaard, Gustav Isaksen and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru kept the visitors level with Inter at the top of Serie A. The result, reported by Football Italia and confirmed in Juventus’ match report, was Lazio’s first league victory in Turin since October 2017.

Three goals punish Juventus’ missed chances

Lazio took the lead in the 37th minute after a short corner, with Mattia Zaccagni’s delivery finding Provstgaard for a glancing header from close range. Isaksen made it 2-0 in the 66th, controlling Nuno Tavares’ cross-field pass before cutting inside and finding the far bottom corner.

Dele-Bashiru completed the scoring in the 89th minute, carrying the ball forward from inside his own half before beating Guglielmo Vicario with an angled drive. Juventus had chances to respond: Randal Kolo Muani had an effort ruled out for offside, while Nick Woltemade and Nico Gonzalez both went close. The match statistics showed 58 per cent possession for the hosts and nine shots apiece, but Lazio registered three efforts on target to Juventus’ two.

The loss came after a demanding week. Juventus had beaten Celta Vigo 2-1 away in the Europa League on Thursday, but had managed only one win in their previous four league rounds. Kenan Yildiz, Manuel Locatelli, Khephren Thuram, Jeff Ekhator and Kamil Grabara were unavailable, while Jeremie Boga returned to the bench. Luciano Spalletti served a touchline ban following his altercation with Cagliari coach Fabio Pisacane, leaving assistant Marco Domenichini in charge from the bench.

Lazio stay level with Inter as Juve slip back

Lazio needed the win to remain joint leaders, and the result left the Bianconeri with more ground to make up. According to Corriere della Sera, Juventus sit eighth on 11 points, eight behind Inter and Lazio, who have 19 each. The defeat adds to the concern around a season in which Juventus have struggled to turn performances into league results, following their draw with Cagliari.

Corriere also reports Juventus have a goal difference of +1, compared with +12 for Inter and +10 for Lazio. The standings sharpen the pressure on Juventus to respond in the next league rounds, while Lazio leave Turin with a sizeable result and their place alongside Inter at the summit intact.

He writes with the perspective of someone who genuinely cares about where the club is heading rather than simply reporting what has already happened. His focus tends to lean toward how the team sets up, where things break down, and what needs to change to get back to where Juventus belongs in the European conversation.
