Vasiliy Lomachenko is looking to return against an unbeaten contender before targeting O’Shaquie Foster in a potential undisputed clash at 130lbs.
The 38-year-old has not fought since May 2024, when he claimed the vacant IBF lightweight title with an 11th-round stoppage of George Kambosos Jr.
By that stage, he had already become a three-division world champion and cemented himself as a modern great, given his combined accomplishments across the professional and amateur codes.
At 135lbs, though, Lomachenko was noticeably undersized against Teofimo Lopez and Devin Haney, who both unanimously outpointed the Ukrainian in 2020 and 2023, respectively.
It is therefore unsurprising that the masterful southpaw now plans to campaign at super-featherweight, where Foster claimed a major victory over Emanuel Navarrete this weekend.
Entering their clash as the WBC champion, the 33-year-old added Navarrete’s IBF and WBO titles to his collection by scoring two 12th-round knockdowns and winning comprehensively on points.
In order to become the undisputed king, though, Foster must face the winner of Anthony Cacace vs Nick Ball, which takes place for the WBA 130lb title on December 19.
A showdown between Foster and Lomachenko could then start to make sense but, for his next outing, ‘The Matrix’ is set to face fellow 38-year-old Charly Suarez.
Speaking with Fight Hub TV, Loma named the Filipino as his likely comeback opponent, perhaps for later this year, while also expressing an interest in eventually fighting Foster.
“My next step will be a fight with [Suarez]. It will be my first fight after rest and, after that, we’ll see how I feel.”
While not in the same elite category as Foster, Suarez is nonetheless a top contender who boxed to an eighth-round no contest against Navarrete in May 2025.
