The NFL Network team of Dave Pasch, Kurt Warner, and Jason Kelce was on the call for Sunday's NFL game in Paris between the Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Saints.
Once again, Pittsburgh's most influential offensive player was veteran running back Jaylen Warren, who totaled 137 yards in his side's gritty 16-10 win against the Parisian backdrop riddled with protests... and food shortages.
Sunday, Oct. 25, was dubbed "National Tight Ends Day," and perhaps Warren had the holiday acutely on his mind not once, not twice, but three times during Sunday's broadcast. The former NFL MVP referred to Jaylen Warren as "Tyler," referencing Indianapolis Colts star tight end Tyler Warren, three times.
“Not when you’ve got Tyler Warren on the field… Nobody better in the league at the running back spot of yards-after-catch than Tyler Warren," he said in one instance.
"Kurt Warner with one of the most unprofessional broadcast performances I’ve seen in a while," one fan said of the display on X. It should be noted that Warner enjoys a bittersweet relationship with Steelers fans: the franchise bested his Arizona Cardinals 27-23 in Super Bowl XLIII.
Warner, to his credit, owned the mistake with a series of posts on X after the contest. "Yes, I called JAYLEN Warren “Tyler” today after calling Colts game & referencing him in today’s game," he posted to his over 600,000 followers.
"My bad, so sorry… It stinks as an announcer when you do that & unfortunately it won’t be my last time bc sometimes u just react & mispeak! I own it… and JAYLEN was awesome today, so hopefully I gave him enough LOVE at other times!!"
Perhaps Warner prepared for Sunday's contest by watching game film of the Steelers-Colts Week 5 showdown that pitted the two Warrens against each other.
"Haha, sorry, 1 play… had Tyler Warren 2 weeks ago and mentioned him in-game; it carried over!.... I’m SORRY… forgive me!" he wrote
Fans still pelted him on social media, but the NFL Network man responded to many of them. " You had one job," one wrote.
"Yep, and it sucks when u mess that up! But sometimes u get another name in (your) head & don’t even realize it, but my bad, I can own it!" Warner responded.
The Steelers' win saw them improve to 5-2 and into sole possession of first place in the AFC North. Warren, a 27-year-old former undrafted back out of Oklahoma State, is looking for his first career 1,000+ yard rushing season.
Warner is still considered one of the more insightful color commentators across NFL booths, especially from an Xs-and-Os point of view.
