Nottingham Forest have made a very shaky start to the 2026/27 campaign, with Oliver Glasner likely to be keen to get the winning formula identified very quickly.

Glasner told Evangelos Marinakis not to sign any further players during the summer window, with the Austrian likely to reassess his squad during the January transfer window.

Forest’s results so far this season have been a complete mixed bag. Home defeats to Leeds and Coventry and a draw on home soil to Tottenham mean that the Reds haven’t yet scored a goal at the City Ground.

Positive results away at Liverpool and Aston Villa were followed by a capitulation against Crystal Palace last week, but perhaps the form runs far deeper than any manager or group of players selected by the boss.

City Ground atmosphere is a concern for Forest

Naturally, positive results tend to bring a fan base making a huge noise and firmly getting behind the team for 90 minutes. That’s just the nature of the beast when it comes to sport, and in particular football.

Forest’s home form has been poor in 2026. Whether it’s been Sean Dyche, Vitor Pereira or Glasner, the Reds have simply failed to give the fan base something to shout about on the banks of the River Trent.

Now, fans have united to suggest that the City Ground atmosphere is playing a big part in the team looking riddled with nerves whenever the time comes to walk out on home soil.

One fan said on the Forest notice board over on Reddit: “A lot of Forest fans need to realise that we’re not going to get another start on the shirt any time soon. The players aren’t top class and are probably giving it their all. Lower the expectations and bring the noise.”

Another has suggested that Forest have been in far worse times as a football club and made more noise inside the City Ground on a matchday.

A disgruntled fan said: “For 23 years we had nothing to cheer about but it never stopped us singing for the majority of the game every week.”

Another fan has suggested entitlement is at play, believing Forest essentially start singing when they’re winning. They said: “I always think the atmosphere is horrid until we get a goal, certainly in times like right now where a result hasn’t been easy to come by at home. It’s like the whole crowd is nervous. The fact we’ve had two goals ruled out in our last two games doesn’t help.”

Forest have to find a way to get the atmosphere going again

Back in the nineties, Stuart Pearce used to go round the stadium before kick-off whipping up a bit of a frenzy with the fans and perhaps something of this nature is needed.

Murillo and Morgan Gibbs-White can often be seen waving their arms trying to get the fans going, but that’s normally after a decent tackle or a decent chance, and a more consistent approach is definitely needed.

There is a solid argument that if the team start winning football matches on home soil, the atmosphere will naturally improve, and that is factual to a certain extent.

However, it’s right that over the last 23 years, Forest have been a lot worse on the pitch, and the fans have been a lot more receptive to getting behind the team rather than spending 90 minutes moaning and groaning at every misplaced pass.

Naturally, the Premier League will attract more tourists and price out proper Forest-supporting families when it comes to attending games at the City Ground.

With Glasner desperately seeking a winning formula, it’s about time that the fan base started to get back to doing what they do best and roar the team on as the whole club looks to arrest the alarming home form in 2026.
