Tadej Pogacar has confirmed he will aim for a record-beating sixth Tour de France victory in 2027. Despite this, the UAE Team Emirates - XRG rider has not yet looked at the route, despite having been revealed over a week ago.
"I just restarted training like two weeks ago, and just sort of getting back in shape," Pogacar said in a virtual community ride on MyWoosh, one of his and UAE Team Emirates - XRG's main sponsors.
Throughout his recovery and the winter training, it is a platform that helps break the monotony of a professional cyclist. "These community rides also help a little bit to just break the routine of training and do something nice and different."
Pogacar suffered a concussion, fractured vertebra and collarbone in a crash during the eighth stage of the 2026 Vuelta a España, bringing his season to an end.
The Slovenian intended on returning to competition before the end of the season, mainly motivated by the European Championships that rode through his hometown of Domzale and finished in his youth training grounds; but this did not ultimately happen.
Tadej Pogacar has returned to training after his Vuelta a España crash
Pogacar will be training throughout the winter, having already spent a few months out of racing - as is the case with Jonas Vingegaard. The Tour de France, World Championships and Vuelta a España have already been confirmed as major goals for him.
But what his spring will look like is still a mystery. "There's like three options that I can do. The team gave me three options of my calendar, but it's a big decision to do," he said. The decision will be made in Spain, over a month away still.
"I think I still need some time to really analyse what I really want for next year. And I think the final decision will be done in December, where we have another training camp."
The two main questions are where he will return to racing - and if this will be in January; and if he will race Paris-Roubaix, aiming to conquer the one monument that is not yet in his palmarès.
"There's a big chance I come back to Classics for sure, and also UAE Tour, and obviously Tour de France. There's no hiding in this, I think, so we will see."
"The really final decision, I think, will be in December training camp, where all the team is together".
This past week, the Tour de France route for the 2027 edition was revealed. The race features plenty time trialing kilometers, less mountain stages, and a route that has been heavily commented on throughout the whole cycling world.
But the former World Champion does not provide insight on its details: "I didn't check a lot the route yet of the Tour. I was not there for the announcement".
"Obviously the Tour is always three weeks long, and there's always big mountains, flat stages, tricky stages, some crosswinds, time trials. So you always have sorts of everything," he added.
"No matter which cities host the start or finish, it's always more or less the same and the toughest race in the world," Pogacar stated. "So you need to be ready for everything."
This upcoming week, the Giro d'Italia will be presented, a race in which Pogacar is not expected.
