Cristiano Ronaldo's sister has cast doubt over whether he will play for Portugal again after his dispute with manager Jorge Jesus led to a suspension.
The 41-year-old left the national team's camp during the international break, accusing Jesus of breaking promises.
Their disagreement followed Portugal's 2-1 Nations League victory over Norway, when Ronaldo remained on the bench.
The Portuguese Football Federation opened disciplinary proceedings, leaving his availability uncertain while his conduct is investigated.
Although Ronaldo has expressed a desire to return, his sister Elma Aveiro suggested a reconciliation remains some distance away.
Speaking at a book launch in Lisbon on Wednesday evening, which Jesus also attended, she delivered a pessimistic assessment of her brother's international future.
"It's more likely a no than a yes," she said.
"I think both [Cristiano and Jorge Jesus] are hurt; it was a situation they experienced, not me, I'm speaking for my brother.
"I think it's a situation that's stalled, we'll see what happens."
Asked whether the two men could repair their relationship, Aveiro added: "I don't know, it's very complicated.
"When we're betrayed, it's very difficult to go back to normal.
"My feeling is one of sadness because the Portuguese people unfortunately forget what has already been done and think that things should be done differently now.
"I'm speechless, it's very difficult to see my brother go through this.
"He is one of the people who least deserve this."
Ronaldo's mother, Dolores Aveiro, has also criticised the situation, saying: "He could have left through the front door and instead he left through the back door."
The disagreement centred on Ronaldo's understanding that he would play the final 30 minutes against Norway.
Instead, Jesus asked him to warm up but did not introduce him, saying he "didn't need Cristiano".
Before Portugal's next match against Denmark, Ronaldo is believed to have agreed an eight-point statement for Jesus to deliver during his press conference.
That was intended to counter suggestions the forward was demanding playing time.
However, Jesus reportedly departed from the agreed wording, prompting Ronaldo to leave camp.
The former Manchester United and Real Madrid star subsequently issued a 1,996-word statement accusing his manager of twice going back on his word.
Ronaldo apologised to his team-mates, but the disciplinary process could now rule him out of November's international break.
The federation confirmed that proceedings were initiated on October 9 to examine events reported two days earlier.
It also announced a preventive suspension and designated the case urgent, with investigators receiving it on October 10.
The proceedings remain confidential until the investigation concludes.
Despite his sister's doubts, Ronaldo has not announced an international retirement.
He previously rejected claims from another sibling during the summer that he would step away after the World Cup.
For now, his stated wish to return stands against a damaged relationship with Jesus and an unresolved investigation into his departure from camp.
