Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold, who already has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Cardinals with a quad injury and a cracked rib, also is in danger of missing Seattle's Week 10 game against the Raiders, league sources told ESPN.
Darnold could attempt to try to return for next Sunday's game in Las Vegas, but the Seahawks also know that they have their bye the following week. By missing the next two games, Darnold could get the chance to rest the next three weeks before the Seahawks play a big divisional Week 12 game in San Francisco against the 49ers.
Darnold cracked a rib on the second play of Monday night's loss to the Bears, and played through a painful injury, before hurting his quad later in the game.
Seattle ruled out Darnold for Sunday's game due to his quad injury, but sources say the Super Bowl-winning quarterback's rib injury also was a factor.
Seattle's offensive production has not dropped off when Drew Lock has replaced Darnold, who has had to endure his fair share of injuries this season.
Darnold missed Seattle's Week 2 game against Arizona with a glute/hip injury that he suffered in the first quarter of the Seahawks opening-night game against the Patriots.
Lock completed 73.1% of his passes in the Week 2 victory against Arizona for 235 yards and three touchdowns. Lock will start against the Cardinals again Sunday despite a right elbow injury that had him inactive the past two games and limited his throwing in recent weeks.
Lock was listed as a limited participant in Friday's practice, as he has been on all 12 of Seattle's injury reports released since the start of Week 6. Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said Friday that Seattle managed Lock's practice reps, which was "more precautionary than anything else."
Macdonald also said last week that Jalen Milroe, who has not appeared in a regular-season game since Week 5 of last year, must get ready to play in case Seattle needs to turn to a third quarterback against Arizona.
