Although it is the second tier of English football, the Championship often ranks as one of the most competitive leagues in the world. For decades now, the division has consistently seen a number of teams battling to earn a place in the Premier League.
Alternatively, it is not just promotion that has teams vying for points. Ambition, of course, varies, but this ensures that even with sides contending for a mid-table position or simply to avoid relegation, there is a sense of competition across the entire league.
Many teams in the Championship have a fanbase of devoted supporters, who can often spur them on in moments where such noise is desperately needed. Transfermarkt have ranked the 2026/27 Championship teams based on stadium attendance, but which clubs see the most fans at their game based on how full their ground is against its capacity?
The team with the lowest attendance in the Championship based on how much of the stadium is filled with fans is Blackburn Rovers. According to Transfermarkt, only 44.7% of Ewood Park is populated, though this is partly due to some supporters protesting against Venky's and their continued ownership of the club.
There is an increase of over 20% between Blackburn and Cardiff City (66.5%), who rank one place above the South Yorkshire side. It must be noted that the Welsh side have the fourth-biggest stadium in the division, though.
Preson North End's Deepdale has almost 73% of its capacity consistently filled, slightly more than The Valley (71.7%), which, as home of Charlton Athletic, will be hoping to host Championship football for the unforeseeable future after years in League One.
Wrexham, who enjoyed three successive promotions from the National League to the Championship from 2023-2025, have the second-smallest ground in the division with 13,341 seats, but they see nearly 79% of these seats filled by fans on a regular basis. The Bet365 Stadium of Stoke City (74.1%) ranks just below Wrexham's home.
Bristol City's Ashton Gate (79.4%) and Sheffield United's Bramall Lane round out this section. Sheffield United have had a slow start to the campaign as they look to return to England's top tier. As a result, it appears many fans of the Blades are staying away.

The 16th most-attended stadium in the entirety of the Championship based on how close to full capacity it is, is Pride Park Stadium, home of Derby County. The Rams' attendances are dwindling with every week that goes by following a horror start to the campaign.
Watford's Vicarage Road (85.1%) is slightly more filled than Pride Park on a game-by-game basis. 18,366 fans on average have turned up to Watford's matches this season, although that number could drop if their struggles continue.
Within two percent of Watford are, in ascending order, Toughsheet Community Stadium and Swansea.com Stadium, homes respectively to Bolton Wanderers and Swansea City. The latter are flying in the Championship and fans are supporting the club in their droves as a result. Bolton, meanwhile, maintain a stadium that is, in proportion to its capacity, 85.4% full, thanks to them being in the Championship for the first time since 2019.
Narrowly missing out on a place in the top 10 is the Riverside Stadium, home to Middlesbrough, and Burnley's ground, Turf Moor. Middlesbrough's stadium is 88.7% full on average thanks to the club's impressive start to the campaign.
Bimingham's St Andrews and Southampton's St Mary's both crack the top 10. Both teams will both have ambitions of returning to the Premier League next year.

Just missing out in the top five of West Bromwich Albion's The Hawthorns (91.5%), Queens Park's Rangers' MATRADE Loftus Road (91.7%) and Wolverhampton Wanderers' Molineux Stadium (94.9%). All three clubs will hope to return to the Premier League this season, with Wolves looking to bounce back at the first time of asking.
First into the top five, however, are Millwall, a club generally considered to be on the up following their impressive Championship finishes in recent years. Of the 20,146 seats at The Den, only about 1,000 of them are generally empty on a game-by-game basis.
Next up is Norwich City. It's perhaps a surprise that Carrow Road ranks fourth given the Canaries' poor start to the campaign. It is testament to the club's fans that their stadium is nearly full on matchdays despite them currently being 20th in the table.
Making the top three is Portsmouth's Fratton Park. Pompey's fanbase turns up in its droves every week despite the club struggling in England's second tier over the past few seasons.
In second place is West Ham United's Stadium. It's mightily impressive that the London Stadium, one of the biggest grounds in English football, has been 97.8% full on average this season given it holds 62,500 people.
No ground has been filled more, based on capacity, than ProAmpac Stadium, home of Championship newbies Lincoln City. As per Transfermarkt, only around 250 seats are left empty for each game Lincoln plays at home. It must be noted, however, that the Imps have the smallest stadium in the league so far, with a capacity of 10,780.
