Rams drop in Week 7 power rankings

Unsurprisingly, the Los Angeles Rams dropped considerably in every outlet's power rankings heading into Week 7 after a devastating and shocking Week 6 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

Among the power rankings we polled, the Rams drifted to as low as 19 and as high as just 13. The Rams simply haven't looked like the juggernaut team that many expected heading into the season, and now they're dealing with a bevy of injuries to key contributors like Davante Adams, Kobie Turner and Poona Ford.

Los Angeles still has a path to a meaningful season in 2026, but it'll be a tough slog the rest of the way after starting 2-4.

Here is the power ranking roundup heading into Week 7.

As they enter a new Bill Parcells reality − "You are what your record says you are" − the Rams (2-4) have also added injuries to Sunday's (latest) insult. Moving forward, they won't have WR Davante Adams (hamstring) or DL Kobie Turner for at least the next month. NT Poona Ford is out for the year. And the kicker? Sean McVay needs another one of those, too.

Coach Sean McVay tried to describe why the Rams are beating themselves with penalties, turnovers and "so many unforced errors" at critical times on offense. But ultimately, he said he's "not really sure" why the Rams can't get out of their own way. "A lot of different guys are taking their turn," McVay said. "… We've had some really critical errors at really unfortunate times. That's what our narrative has been for this year. We can't keep saying, 'Oh, we haven't done that before.' Well, this year we are doing it. We have to be able to fix it, and it's my job to do that."

I have now officially lost all faith in the Dream Team. I was willing to write their early struggles off to jet lag and a mostly brutal stretch of opponents in the first five weeks. But their hideous 18-16 loss to the Cardinals this past Sunday broke me. It might have broken the Rams, too. It definitely broke WR Davante Adams, who is now out 6-10 weeks with a ruptured hamstring. Sean McVay looks as lost and frustrated as I’ve ever seen him. And I don’t blame him. The Rams are ranked third in total offense and total defense, but they don’t seem to make big plays on either side of the ball. They look old or tired or maybe both. Mostly, they look very overrated.

The next four games will decide their season, starting this week at the Raiders. They need to go at least 3-1 in this part of the schedule or they can kiss the division goodbye.

Sean McVay is doing more this year than making a mockery of the entire idea of special teams. The Rams coach is also driving Williams fantasy managers nuts. The veteran running back went off the board 25th on average, and he’s 16th in points per game (19.8). But McVay is cutting into his touches with Blake Corum, who has 47 carries compared to Williams’ 80. Now the Rams will be without Davante Adams for six to 10 weeks.

The most telling comment from the Rams' loss probably came from running back Kyren Williams, who seemingly isn't happy that he's sharing snaps with Blake Corum. He was asked why the offense has inconsistent energy.

"Can't tell you, bro," Williams said. "Probably because I'm not out there."

Williams played 72.4% of the snaps against the Cardinals, and Corum did have 60 total yards and a touchdown. It's not like he was ineffective. But the Rams should be frustrated with a 2-4 start, and Williams was willing to share it.

I don’t know what is happening with the Rams, but I know that we’ll all wish these takes vanished when the team beats the Raiders, Chargers, Commanders and Cardinals in successive weeks. There’s still time for the “trade Sean McVay to the Jets for three firsts” fan forum post to come down!

Rumors of the Los Angeles Rams being an unstoppable force were greatly exaggerated.

After rolling into the regular season with massive expectations, the Rams are 2-4 and sitting in the NFC West basement. It doesn't feel like their rough start to the season has been fluky, either.

The eventual return of Myles Garrett may not be enough to fix a leaky defense, and it will do nothing to address L.A.'s disastrous special-teams unit. While Matthew Stafford and the offense have been enough to keep the Rams in games more often than not, they could have a tough time doing that if Davante Adams' apparent non-contact injury proves to be significant.

Teams don't usually face must-win games in October, but next week's trip to Las Vegas could bring exactly that for the Rams.
