Bruno Fernandes and Michael Carrick were major talking points for Manchester United supporters after the 3-0 Premier League defeat to Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
Bournemouth took the lead over Manchester United in the first half after Rayan broke the Premier League deadlock before the Red Devils’ woes intensified.
Messi and Ronaldo RUINED the Ballon d'Or
Marcus Tavernier put Bournemouth 2-0 up against Man Utd only five minutes after Rayan scored and Michael Carrick’s men were left with a serious uphill battle.
United were left licking their wounds on Sunday after Evanilson scored past Senne Lammens in the second half and Bournemouth sealed a 3-0 win at Old Trafford.
United lost the game 3-0… do you still agree with the decision not to give Bruno ANY minutes?
Poor he won’t be - and will probably walk into another Championship job in fairly short order. Maybe Wrexham will come calling.
He was offered the chance to apologise and rejoin the squad and refused. Useless
Following the crushing 3-0 scoreline at full-time, Manchester United manager Michael Carrick received a heartfelt reaction from supporters before he marched down the Old Trafford tunnel. However, the same could not be said for Bruno Fernandes and the rest of the players, who were met with boos by United fans as soon as Carrick disappeared out of sight.
Carrick’s reception vs the one that Fernandes and the United captain’s teammates received sparked telling reactions from fans on X, formerly Twitter, after the Bournemouth defeat on Sunday.
A Red Devils supporter wrote: “Rate the Old Trafford fans there. Carrick chants as he lapped the stadium and then a wall of boos for the players once he went down the tunnel.”
“Love that from Man United fans. Cheering a club legend in Carrick off the pitch and thunderous boos for Bruno [and] the players who’ve clearly stopped playing for him,” another added.
Someone else shared: “Carrick getting his song sung from the crowd saying [his] farewell. He’s still a legend to them. He goes down the tunnel. Boos ring out as soon as he disappears, aimed at the players (especially aimed at Bruno) and the owners.”
“How telling. Man Utd fans applaud Michael Carrick, who clearly knows his time is up. After he goes down the tunnel, they loudly boo the players, including Bruno Fernandes, as they leave the pitch,” a fourth Man Utd fan claimed.
Somebody else argued: “Reaction of Man United fans says a lot. Sang Carrick’s name for the entire lap, then as soon as he’s in the tunnel, they boo the players. Bruno Fernandes will outlast Carrick at the club, but his reputation won’t.”
“That genuinely felt like a farewell to Michael Carrick, and it was quite depressing. The moment [he] went through the tunnel while being applauded by the fans, they immediately started booing Bruno Fernandes,” a sixth X user tweeted.
Man Utd are 16th in the Premier League table after their opening eight matches in the 2026-27 campaign under Michael Carrick. The Red Devils have won once and picked up four draws and suffered three defeats in the Premier League so far.
United will cross paths with Premier League side Chelsea next at Stamford Bridge in their final match in October. The Red Devils will kick off November by returning to Champions League action, as Man Utd will host Serie A side Roma at Old Trafford.
