1. WEDNESDAY’S BEST: WEMBY & LUKA MAKE HISTORY, SGA POPS OFF

Victor Wembanyama scored 12 points on Monday.

Last night, he eclipsed that total in the 1st quarter. By halftime, he had made history.

And by the final buzzer, he’d delivered a career night – and a performance that hadn’t been seen in 50+ years.

Spurs 112, Mavericks 111: Wembanyama had 29 points, 15 boards and 5 blocks … in the 1st half as San Antonio built a 19-point lead.

But Dallas clawed back behind Kyrie Irving (29 pts, 7 reb, 5 ast), slowly chipping away before Cooper Flagg threw down an alley-oop and-1 to tie the game at 100, silencing the Frost Bank Center.

Yet Wembanyama – already sitting at 42 points – had one more roar left, scoring 10 of San Antonio’s final 12 to fend off Dallas’ comeback bid and seal a one-point thriller, giving the Spurs their sixth straight win after an 0-2 start. | Recap

Victor Wembanyama

  • A Night For The Ages: Wemby finished with a career-high 52 points, 24 boards and 8 blocks, becoming the first player to record 50+ pts, 20+ reb and 5+ blk in a game since Bob McAdoo in 1974
  • Beyond Comparison: McAdoo played all 48 minutes that game. Wemby? Just 34 minutes, and his line of at least 50/20/8 is unprecedented since blocks were first recorded in 1973-74

The numbers were historic. The man behind them was relentless.

  • Attack Mode: After going 5-for-15 on Monday, Wemby went 16-for-28 last night, with all but three of his made field goals coming in the restricted area
  • On The Other End? He was just as imposing, helping hold Dallas to a season-low 38.2% from the field, highlighted by an absurd sequence where he swatted three shots in 13 seconds
  • By night’s end, he’d joined Devin Booker, Kyrie Irving, LeBron James and Rick Barry as the only players with multiple 50-pieces at age 22 or younger. And he says there should be more to come
  • “I haven’t been feeling great lately. I’ve been sick for a while,” Wemby said postgame. “And today, I felt like I got my legs back. So it should be more [games] like this, more often.”

Luka Dončić

And what’s a record night without Luka Magic, whose sizzling start just got hotter.

Lakers 116, Kings 103: In another offensive masterclass, Dončić poured in 40 points on 6 treys while adding 9 boards and 7 dimes, as the Lakers outpaced the Kings behind his third straight 40-piece – and his fourth in his last five games. | Recap

  • Joining MJ: Dončić now has 308 points on the year, becoming the first player since Michael Jordan in 1988 to score 300+ points through his first eight games of a season
  • Pacing With Legends: Outside of Luka and MJ, only two other players have ever achieved such a start: Wilt Chamberlain (3x) and Rick Barry
  • Standing Alone: But Dončić’s heater is different. With last night’s performance, he’s now tallied six straight games with 35+ pts, 5+ reb, 5+ ast and 5+ 3s – the longest such streak in NBA history

Speaking of 40-pieces…

Thunder 124, Cavaliers 116: Two nights after dropping 43 to beat Cleveland, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander turned in 42 points and 8 dimes, scoring 32 in the 2nd half to keep Donovan Mitchell (27 pts, 6 ast) and the Cavs at bay. | Recap

  • Déjà Vu: SGA is just the sixth player since 2000 to record back-to-back 40-balls against the same opponent
  • His Company? Steph (vs. SAS, 2025), Jokić (vs. SAS, 2024), Luka (vs. LAC, 2021), Russ (vs. NOP, 2014) and Kobe (vs. DEN, 2002)

2. EAST SHINE: SIXERS STAY HOT, KLAY CALLS GAME & MORE

For just the third time since 2000, the Sixers are 8-1.

And to get there, Philly’s stars delivered yet again, avenging their only loss of the season in a showdown between the East’s top two teams.

76ers 112, Pistons 106: Jaylen Brown (30 pts, 7 reb) notched his first 30-piece as a Sixer, but delivered the play of the game on the defensive end, blocking a Cade Cunningham 3-point attempt with 33 ticks left to help halt a 7-0 Detroit run.

Joel Embiid (26 pts, 15 reb) added a pair of free throws seconds later, and the Sixers held on to hand the Pistons just their second loss after falling to Detroit on Oct. 25. | Recap

  • LBJ Hits 16K: LeBron James flirted with a triple-double (13 pts, 10 reb, 8 ast), orchestrating Philly’s offense while becoming the first player in NBA history to reach 16,000 career made field goals
  • All Cylinders: Tyrese Maxey (19 pts, 7 ast) and VJ Edgecombe (11 pts, 6 reb) also finished in double figures as the Sixers starting five combined for 99 points
  • Tyrese Time: That included 11 points from Maxey in the 4th, helping Philly withstand Detroit’s late surge, fueled by Cunningham (26 pts, 11 ast) and Duncan Robinson (27 pts, 7 3s)
  • Sixers Streaking: Philly now holds a 1.5-game lead atop the East and has won five straight games, matching its longest win streak from all of last season

Klay Thompson

While Philly’s star-studded squad opened Wednesday’s 14-game slate, Miami’s closed it.

Heat 117, Clippers 116 (OT): Facing a 20-point, 1st-half deficit in LA, the Heat stormed back behind Bam Adebayo, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Klay Thompson to force OT, where Thompson said goodnight – drilling a corner 3 with one second left to stamp an epic Miami dub. | Recap

  • Triple Threat: Bam (35 pts, 10 reb), Giannis (27 pts, 14 reb, 3 blk) and Klay (30 pts, 8 3s) combined for 92, including all 10 of Miami’s points in OT
  • Back Again: It’s Thompson’s first 30-point game since April 2024 and Miami’s largest comeback win since 2019

Celtics 109, Bucks 102: Down 22 early in the 3rd, Tyler Herro (25 pts, 19 in 2H) willed the Bucks back as Milwaukee took the lead with 5:08 left in the 4th. But Paul George and Derrick White answered, sparking a 14-6 closing run for Boston, which held on to move to 6-2. | Recap

  • Stepping Up: With Jayson Tatum out, George (25 pts, 5 ast, 4 stl, 5 3s) and White (24 pts, 7 ast) scored 12 of the C’s final 14 points, while seven Celtics finished with 9+ points

Knicks 135, Bulls 105: Jalen Brunson (33 pts, 4 ast) came out cooking, dropping 22 in the 1st quarter as the Knicks jumped out to an 84-52 lead at the break, tying a franchise record for points in a 1st half.

New York never looked back, rolling to its fourth win in five games after an 0-3 start. | Recap

3. BIG WEST WINS: BLAZERS TAKE 1ST PLACE, PELS PREVAIL IN OT

There’s a new leader out West, and it started with a big win from Minny.

Wolves 117, Rockets 107: In a back-and-forth battle that featured a season-high 26 lead changes, the shorthanded Wolves saved their best for last, with LaMelo Ball and Jonathan Kuminga fueling a 35-23 4th quarter to hand Houston just its second loss of the season. | Recap

  • Clutch Combo: Ball (20 pts, 6 ast) scored 12 in the 4th on 4-for-4 shooting, including two 3s, while Kuminga (16 pts, 4 3s) added a pair of triples to spark a decisive 11-3 run in the final 2:37
  • Full Pack: Ayo Dosunmu (21 pts, 6 ast) led six Wolves in double figures as Minnesota improved to 6-3 despite being without Anthony Edwards

As Houston fell, the Blazers continued to rise.

Blazers 132, Suns 119: Donovan Clingan was a beast inside (24 pts, 11 reb, 3 blk), while Deni Avdija (21 pts, 7 reb, 12 ast) and Damian Lillard (25 pts, 5 ast) provided the perimeter punch as the Blazers raced past Devin Booker (33 pts) and the Suns to improve to 6-1. | Recap

  • New No. 1: With the win, Portland jumped Houston (7-2) for 1st, topping the West standings for the first time since November 2022
  • Blazing: It’s also Portland’s best seven-game start since opening the season 7-0 in 1999-2000

For the second straight game, the Pelicans found themselves in overtime.

And for the second straight game, they pulled out a win.

Pelicans 120, Jazz 113 (OT): After edging out Memphis on Monday, New Orleans countered Keyonte George’s outburst (39 pts, 9 ast, 4 stl) with four 20+ point scorers, scoring the final four points in regulation to force OT.

And the extra frame was all Pels as they ripped off a 16-3 run to capture their fourth straight dub. | Recap

  • Four Of A Kind: Zion Williamson (23 pts), Saddiq Bey (22 pts), Dejounte Murray (20 pts) and Derik Queen (20 pts, 9 reb, 6 ast) combined for 85 points, including eight from Bey in OT

4. ROUNDUP: JOKIĆ FUELS NUGGETS, NAW SHINES, PACERS & NETS WIN

[ ]

Nuggets 128, Raptors 109: Nikola Jokić (32 pts, 10 reb, 11 ast) only needed three quarters to record his 201st career triple-double, fueling a 41-15 3rd quarter for Denver, which turned a three-point halftime deficit into a 19-point win. | Recap

  • Effortless Efficiency: Jokić shot 13-for-19 (68.4%) from the floor, and it’s the 90th time he’s recorded a triple-double within three quarters
  • Mind-Blowing Math: That’s 44.8% of his 201 triple-doubles and those 90 alone would tie for 7th all-time

Hawks 120, Wizards 105: Trae Young posted 18 points and 6 dimes against his former team, while Anthony Davis turned in a big double-double (26 pts, 10 reb).

But it wasn’t enough to top Nickeil Alexander-Walker (26 pts, 6 3s) and the Hawks, who pulled away in the 2nd half for their second straight win. | Recap

  • Can NAWt Miss: After hitting nine 3s in Monday’s win over Indy, Alexander-Walker is the first player in Hawks history to make 15 3s in a two-game span

Pacers 107, Grizzlies 103: On a five-game skid, the shorthanded Pacers used a 21-11 closing run to deliver the final swing in a game that saw 16 lead changes, earning a huge win over Ty Jerome (23 pts) and the 6-2 Grizzlies, who have now dropped two straight. | Recap

Nets 114, Hornets 104: Michael Porter Jr. was feeling it (26 pts, 10 reb, 4 3s) as the Nets pulled past Naz Reid (28 pts, 9 reb) and the Hornets for their second win in three games. | Recap

5. ON NBA TV: WARRIORS SEEK SIXTH STRAIGHT WIN, HOSTING HEAT (10 ET)

The Warriors didn’t win five straight games all of last season. Just two weeks into 2026-27, they’ve already done so.

When asked Monday what’s changed for Golden State, Steph Curry began his answer with one name:

“Yax.”

The rookie’s emergence, alongside Curry’s continued brilliance, has helped the Dubs turn an 0-3 start into five straight wins. Tonight (10 ET, NBA TV), they host Miami, looking to make it six.

  • Classic Curry: Steph has been his usual self while leading his team of 18 years. He’s averaged 30 points per game while shooting 42.9% from beyond the arc
  • Historic Pace: As it stands, the 12-time All-Star is headed toward his highest-scoring season since 2020-21, and trails only Luka Dončić (38.5) in points per game

To complement Curry’s production, Yaxel Lendeborg has made an impact in his first year with the franchise, having been drafted No. 11 overall in June.

  • Red-Hot Rookie: The Michigan product has put up 21.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game, currently ranking 2nd behind Cameron Boozer on Jeff Zillgitt’s Kia Rookie Ladder
  • More History: Over 30 years have come and gone since a first-year Warrior posted a 20+ scoring average. Hall of Famer Mitch Richmond was the last with 22.0 in 1988-89
  • “He’s just got composure, feel. With his size on the court, he’s a natural problem,” Curry said of Lendeborg. “He’s kind of the full package.”

The Warriors just keep winning, but at times, wins haven’t come easy.

  • Battling Back: The team faced a 25-point deficit against the Lakers on Friday and won anyway. It faced a 17-point deficit against the Suns on Monday and won again
  • Draymond’s Spark: The latter comeback saw Draymond Green ejected after receiving consecutive technical fouls with Golden State down 10 in the 3rd quarter. The Warriors outscored Phoenix 59-46 the rest of the way
  • “He lit a fire in all of us, and we had to respond,” said Curry of Green postgame. “So I’m glad we did.”
