Newcastle United are casting their net far and wide when it comes to new signings, with one African wonderkid firmly in their crosshairs, GIVEMESPORT understands.
New manager Matthias Jaissle has had a tough few weeks after what had been a reasonably good start to the 2026/27 season, with back-to-back defeats against Coventry City and Aston Villa stunting their start.
The Magpies sit 11th in the Premier League table, with two wins and two draws from their opening seven matches.
A certain degree of patience is required from those around St James' Park, with a manager new to the league and the upheaval the club went through in the summer transfer window.
Three big-name players left the club in Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon, with the likes of Matt Targett, Kieran Trippier and Nick Woltemade (loan) moving on too. Seven new arrivals came into the club, but all of them were 24 years old or younger, meaning it is something of an inexperienced squad in the north east now.
And Newcastle are monitoring a 19-year-old who could be the next big thing in African football.
Dyeidu Massiah has already notched four goals in five games in the UAE for club Forte Virtus and the Magpies are keeping tabs on the forward's impressive performances in the Middle East.
Jaissle may know the player already, having made the move from the UAE, where he won the Asian Champions League twice, to arrive at Newcastle in the summer.
Speaking in his exclusive GMS newsletter, senior football correspondent Ben Jacobs gave the lowdown on the teenager and the Magpies' interest. He said: "My information is they are monitoring a very promising young Ghanaian footballer by the name of Dyeidu Massiah who's currently playing for Forte Virtus in the UAE first division.
He's had a very promising start to the season and we've seen some reports out there that have suggested interest from Racing Santander in Spain and AIK in Sweden, but my information is that Newcastle United have started scouting the player.
"At the moment, we're in the early stages, but they're keeping an eye on the situation as well, and this looks like a very promising prospect and a player to keep an eye on over the course of 2027 or beyond as he develops, but he is doing really well at the moment in the UAE.
"Newcastle United have a slightly different strategy, of course, primarily it's to try and get European football and build on the foundations that Eddie Howe put in place, but Matthias Jaissle hasn't just come from the UAE where he won the Asian Champions League twice, he's got that Red Bull upbringing, so a proven track record of dealing with and developing young players, and in addition, raising their value, and as a consequence, when Newcastle recruit in the market, I think they are quite willing now to buy young and watch that talent develop."
