The young shot-stopper has been given the full backing of the Bavarians' hierarchy who see no alternatives in the transfer market that would be considered an upgrade.
According to Sport BILD, Bayern Munich's bosses have determined internally there is no better goalkeeper in Europe than Jonas Urbig.
Among the well-known top keepers, there is none who can be found who offers "an absolute guarantee" of being an upgrade.
Club president Herbert Hainer stated Urbig "brings exactly the mix that FC Bayern needs – talent, personality, and a will to learn every day.
"Jonas Urbig already exudes a remarkable calm and composure and has proven himself in big games. We all have high hopes for his future.”
In January 2025, the then 21-year-old joined from second-division side 1.FC Köln and has since developed rapidly.
The highlight so far was his first international appearance in October, keeping clean sheets against Serbia (2-0) and Greece (0-0).
The power shift in the German record champions' goal is already well underway. Neuer is expected to retire in the summer.
According to Sport BILD, the internal plan is for Urbig to play even more games this season than the 20 he made last season.
Urbig could potentially see around 25 competitive appearances this season, including regular Champions League matches.
This is to allow the future number one to develop further and not be thrown in at the deep end in the new season.
