Staff score predictions for Clemson’s huge ACC road matchup vs Syracuse

Clemson heads to Syracuse on Saturday with an opportunity to build momentum and settle some unfinished business. After beating Florida State last weekend, the Tigers will look to finish their two-game road swing with another victory against an opponent that got the better of them last season.

Syracuse left Death Valley with a 34-21 win in their previous meeting, giving the Orange just their third victory in the series. Clemson still holds a 10-3 advantage overall and has won six of the past seven matchups, but last year’s loss provides a reminder of what Syracuse can do.

Fortunately for Dabo Swinney’s team, the road has generally been a comfortable place to play. The Tigers are 11-2 in regular-season road games since November 2023, with their only defeats coming at Georgia Tech on a last-second, 55-yard field goal in 2025 and at LSU in this season’s opener.

Including College Football Playoff first-round games, Clemson owns a 10-3 road record since the start of the 2024 season. That .769 winning percentage is tied with Ohio State for seventh nationally during that stretch.

Now, the Tigers need another road performance to keep their momentum going. Can Clemson follow its victory in Tallahassee with a win at Syracuse, or will the Orange deliver another frustrating result?

Here’s how our staff sees Saturday’s matchup playing out, along with our score predictions.

While all the talk right now seems to be about Syracuse quarterback Steve Angeli likely being back from injury and what he did to Clemson last season, I’m not fully buying into it all. While there was more pure talent on Clemson’s defense last season, the group we’ve seen this year has performed much better. I don’t see Syracuse finding many ways to score points on Saturday.

Like most games this year, it should come down to the Clemson offense, which I think is improved enough to win this game. The loss of starting running back Gideon Davidson isn’t helpful, but Clemson should walk away from this game with an ACC road win.

Steven Holley: Clemson 27, Syracuse 17

Dabo Swinney mentioned this week tha for as great as Nolan Hauser has been (23 of 24 on field goal attempts), how about turning those five kicks into two? Not to read too much into last week, but I think the Tigers and Tait Reynolds find the end zone again. Syracuse’s QB situation with often injured starter Steve Angeli (questionable) and backup QB Malachi Nelson (doubtful) would worry me a bit. And we’ve seen teams fresh off a huge win like the Orange had against SMU in Week 9 be unable to follow it up a week later. I like the Tigers to win this one. Hopefully it’s the start of another Swinney team that starts slow but closes the regular season on a winning streak.
