Steven Clifford is clearly not pleased with the VAR appointment for Rangers’ away clash at Dens Park against Dundee on Saturday.
Matthew MacDermid, who made headlines for the wrong reasons on Friday night, will be sitting in the VAR room in the Scottish Premiership in a few hours.
He was the on-field referee for the game between Partick Thistle and Ayr United on Friday, which the former won 1-0. MacDermid handed a penalty to Partick, which they converted to win, but the decision is one that nobody seems to be in favour of.
Unsurprisingly, Four Lads Had a Dream’s Clifford also did not agree with MacDermid’s decision and expects him to be interfering in the game against Dundee as well. He has labelled him an “absolutely shocking official”, which shows he’s not one to pull his punches.
He believes that the decision made on Friday night would not even be made in amateur football. Clifford was a referee for 12 years and admits he had never made a howler so bad.
Matthew MacDermid actually gave a penalty for this 🤦🏻 pic.twitter.com/SjpvFJP9iH

Clifford wrote on X: “Let’s be honest, the chances of him interfering and getting something horrifically wrong are astronomical. He is an absolutely shocking official.
“Last night’s decision wouldn’t even be made in amateur football and I did it for 12 years and never done anything that ridiculous.”
The footage above shows that Seb Drozd fell to the ground theatrically, and there was absolutely no contact on his legs. He wanted to trick the referee into thinking that Ayr defender Kevin Holt had fouled him, and that apparently worked, as he was awarded a penalty for it.
The decision was so bad that Partick boss Mark Wilson said that it was not a spot kick.
