Jeffery Simmons might be the Chicago Bears' new defensive centerpiece as they chase a Lombardi Trophy, but he clearly still holds a special place in the hearts of the Tennessee Titans' defensive players.
Many of the Titans' defenders demonstrated their feelings as much when they wore red sleeves to honor the recently traded Simmons during their 43-36 overtime loss against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. The All-Pro Simmons made the bright red look his trademark during his time in Nashville.
In the postgame locker room, veteran Titans defensive tackle Solomon Thomas explained why the Titans wanted to wear red sleeves to pay tribute to Simmons. In short, the Titans still miss Simmons so much. They wanted to show him "how much they love him" because of the sterling standard and example the superstar defensive tackle set for his teammates during his Titans tenure. And they're rooting for his utmost success in Chicago with the Bears.
That's so wonderful all around:
Not many NFL players would get this kind of heartwarming treatment almost immediately after a midseason trade. This reaction from Simmons' ex-teammates in their first game without him speaks to the tremendous impact he had on the Titans as a star player and a leader.
