Di Giannantonio won’t help Marquez, putting own goals first

Fabio Di Giannantonio has said he will focus on his own ambitions rather than act as a pawn in the MotoGP battle between Marc Marquez and Jorge Martin. The Italian rider, who represents Valentino Rossi’s VR46 team and wears the iconic yellow, is determined to push his machine to the limit and secure the best possible standing in the premier class.

As the season nears its climax, Di Giannantonio dismisses any suggestion that he might aid Marquez’s title chase, emphasizing his commitment to his own career and his team’s success.

Fourth place is the goal, third not ruled out

Currently eyeing fourth place in the championship, Di Giannantonio openly acknowledges the challenge but refuses to rule out a podium finish in the overall standings. “I am clearly thinking about the championship. I want to make the most of this season. Ultimately, I wear the yellow jersey and defend my own interests and those of my team, trying to achieve the best possible result for my career and the team,” he told GPOne. “For now, the immediate goal is fourth place. But you should never say never for third.”

The Italian’s rivalry extends beyond the title contenders, as he braces for a fierce duel with fellow Aprilia rider Marco Bezzecchi. Recognizing the difficulty ahead, Di Giannantonio highlighted the necessity to maximize performance at each remaining round, particularly during the upcoming Malaysian Grand Prix. “I know it will be very difficult because beating Bezzecchi in the next races will be very complicated. But we are fighting for that, and our main concern is to get the best out of every circuit to achieve the best possible result by the end of the season.”

Cooperation with Dorna over the Qatar Grand Prix

Di Giannantonio also addressed the ongoing discussions about the future of the Qatar Grand Prix, a matter that has stirred controversy and uncertainty within the paddock. Contradicting rumors of dissent and logistical concerns, the VR46 rider described a collaborative and constructive approach with the MotoGP promoter Dorna.

“We cannot go into details, but let’s say the goal is to cooperate with Dorna and MotoGP to ensure maximum safety, guarantees, and insurance for all paddock members, allowing us to perform our job under the best possible conditions,” he explained. “I think it’s important to help MotoGP and Dorna improve our sport, not only on the track but also off it, even in situations like this. There is absolutely no conflict. We cooperate to improve conditions for everyone so that we can race under these circumstances.”

Di Giannantonio’s declaration that he will not compromise his own championship ambitions to assist Marquez sets a definitive tone as the MotoGP season hurtles toward its conclusion. “I wear the yellow and defend my interests,” he insists, signaling a relentless pursuit of personal glory above all else.
