The Jaguars were unable to win in London on Sunday, but their star utility player showed out on both sides of the ball.
When former Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter made the move from college football to the NFL, many doubters did not believe he'd be able to play his "iron man" style of football effectively at the highest level of the sport. But despite the Texans knocking off the Jaguars 34-31 on Sunday, Hunter put together an individual effort for Jacksonville that should prove those doubters wrong.
Hunter was used extensively on both sides of the ball on Sunday, and in his performance, he was able to make some NFL history – as he became just the fourth player ever in the league to post a receiving touchdown and an interception in the same game. It marked the first time since Brian Dawkins in 2002 that a player has achieved that feat.
"I've been doing this since I was a baby -- doing those type of things," Hunter said. "We've just got to come out with the win, is really my main focus."
It wasn't just the touchdown and interception, however, that defined Hunter's game. He made plays on both sides of the ball all day that helped keep the Jaguars in the game against the Texans. He recorded four receptions for 59 yards on offense, and also posted three tackles and a pass deflection on defense. He also allowed just two receptions for five yards in 34 coverage snaps.
But it was his touchdown reception which cut the Texans lead from 10 points to three points early in the fourth quarter, and his interception came on the following drive in the endzone, which then set up a drive where Cam Little notched a game-tying field goal with under two minutes in regulation.
"[Hunter] made some critical plays for us on both sides of the football," Jaguars head coach Liam Coen said. "We've got to continue to get him the ball and keep building off of it and making sure it fits within the rhythm and flow of the game. But he definitely helped put us in a position to win that game today."
