Manchester City star Erling Haaland has already prepared a career plan, and the next step is to make a switch to Spain.
The Norway international came up through the ranks of Bryne Fotballklubb. He spent 12 years and left them for Molde Fotballklubb in 2017. The striker then moved to Red Bull Salzburg in January 2019 before joining Borussia Dortmund a year later.
His fine displays for the Bundesliga side had caught the attention of several top European clubs. Manchester City were successful in securing his services in 2022, and the 26-year-old has starred since then.
The striker won the treble in his debut season at the Etihad. He has continued to shine for the Premier League side, managing 174 goals and 30 assists from 208 matches.
Erling Haaland’s impressive performances for the Citizens had already led to reports of Real Madrid and Barcelona’s interest. In January 2025, he signed a long-term contract until 2034.
Neither has come close to signing him, while Barcelona president Joan Laporta refused to rule out.

In May 2025, he said: “Although in life almost nothing is impossible, right now we are not thinking about making an addition of this type, because he has also just renewed his contract.”
In February, Joan Soler, who has been part of Laporta’s board since 2021, also didn’t rule out a move for the Manchester City star.
Soler explained: “Yes, we could sign players like Julián Álvarez or Haaland. These signings pay for themselves in five years, and Barca’s finances are ready for something like this.”
Real Madrid can be in the mix while their officials haven’t publicly discussed the possibility of signing the frontman.
Journalist Matteo Moretto has been discussing Erling Haaland’s future plans for Marca‘s Los 100 de MARCA by Orange.
“Haaland has always chosen his next destination step by step, considering the sporting aspect. He’s winning and has won a lot,” he said.
“I think his next step will be La Liga. We still need to see which team, but he would really like to play in La Liga. Haaland has that dream. From what I hear, sooner or later he’ll end up in Spain.”
Real Madrid and Barcelona can be the two options for the Norwegian if he wants to end his time at Manchester City. The journalist is only mentioning Erling Haaland’s stance and not that of Enzo Maresca’s side.
