TOF OF THE POPS: Everton vs Coventry LIVE: Grealish OUT of squad again as Toffees look to climb into European spots on Lampard’s return

EVERTON welcome Coventry to the Hill Dickinson Stadium tonight to kick off another weekend of Premier League action!

Jack Grealish misses a fourth straight game as he is not deemed fit enough after an absence for a breach of club discipline.

The Toffees beat Newcastle twice in back-to-back games to reach the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup and go seventh in the league.

The newly-promoted Sky Blues beat Sunderland 3-1 last week to climb out of the relegation zone with nine points – Frank Lampard now returns to Everton searching for a first successive win this season.

HALF-TIME: Everton 0-0 Coventry City

Just one minute of stoppage time to come.

The Dane, Torp, fires a dropping free-kick from distance on target, but Pickford comfortably gets across to his left post to parry it away.

Dasilva fights his way infield until Dibling drags him down just outside the area.

It looks like a mutual case of shirt pulling, but Coventry win a free kick in a promising spot!

CLOSE!

Rudoni jinks past Garner, follows it with a stepover, and then zings a low drive from range just wide of the left post.

Great effort.

Did we just see a hair pull?

Tarkowski gets a handful as Yirenkyi jumps, but the VAR isn’t interested.

Coventry carve out another promising opportunity, but Torp fails to connect with a delivery flashed across the box before a block halts Rudoni.

Soon after, Rudoni floats a deep free-kick in from the right, which bounces behind.

COVENTRY PRESSURE!

Sakamoto and Van Ewijk link up well down the right, with the latter seeing a cross deflect behind off a retreating George.

Pickford is forced to punch away Rudoni’s in-swinging delivery before Dasilva has a shot from outside the box blocked.

Moments later, Sakamoto fires an effort straight at the England goalkeeper from inside the area.

He really should do better there!

Out on the right, Dibling jinks at Dasilva and delivers a cross, but—much like the majority of their attacks this half—it ultimately comes to nothing.

Torp has a go with a speculative effort from distance, but the Dane’s strike sails harmlessly into the stands.

The visitors keep the pressure on, causing some early panic in the Everton ranks before Pickford navigates a crowd of players to claim Yirenkyi’s high ball.

It is turning into a tactical chess match.

Who will blink first?

Garner brings down Gboho centrally, and Mfuni carries the ball forward following the short restart.

Coventry look dangerous down the right via Sakamoto, but Mykolenko manages to handle the Japanese trickster, ultimately winning a free kick inside his own box.

Solid defending.

Gboho tries his luck from distance, dragging an effort wide of the left post.

Pickford is untroubled as he restarts play from the goal kick, though he has a minor scare when Yirenkyi slots a ball through.

It comes back to the keeper to spark a counter-attack, but the attempt goes nowhere.

Dibling plays in Barry on the right-hand side of the box.

He charges forward, attempting to clip a delivery toward the back post for George, before Rushworth gathers.

Rudoni flicks on a ball that drifts comfortably wide of the left post as Coventry try to build some confidence, taking their time.

It marks the second time this season the Sky Blues have failed to record a touch in the opposition box during the opening 20 minutes of a Premier League game, having also failed to do so on MD1 against Arsenal.

Barry, Armstrong and Dewsbury-Hall link up with real promise on a counter-attack down the right, but Coventry manage to get bodies back in time to thwart the move.

Coventry’s trend of sluggish starts rolls on.

They have managed a mere single shot on target during the first 15 minutes of Premier League matches this season, giving them the lowest total of any club.

Following a short corner, Garner clips a high delivery toward the far post, but Branthwaite is unable to keep it in play.

Everton are playing with real assurance right now, though Coventry’s crowded area is proving difficult to break down.

Still, they have just forced a corner on the left.

George wins a foul off Yirenkyi, allowing Dewsbury-Hall to curl a delivery into the box from the left-centre.

It turns into a proper Sunday League scramble in the six-yard box featuring Barry and Armstrong, ending with the ball bouncing off Rushworth and Pinnock scuffing it behind.

A free kick is going the visitors’ way, though, as Barry inadvertently handled it.

That opening flurry of pressure finally fizzles out as Dewsbury-Hall fires through a crowd of bodies, dragging his effort wide of the right post.

CHANCES!

Barry takes a touch too many on the right and misfires from a tight angle, but the half-clearance drops to Mykolenko, who forces a parry from Rushworth with a shot on target.

George is then blocked as well.

Everton surrender possession cheaply, letting Yirenkyi loft a pass into the area toward Awoniyi.

It sails just past the striker and leaves Pickford in two minds!

Down the other end, Barry plays Dewsbury-Hall through, but Mfuni tracks back superbly to shepherd the midfielder out of danger.

As the match gathers pace, here is another stat: today marks 25 years and six days since David Moyes’s previous fixture against Coventry, which was a 2-2 league draw with Preston back in October 2001.

The only longer interval between matches for him is against Mansfield Town, spanning 27 years and 212 days between January 1998 and August 2025.

A delivery from the left threatens the Coventry box, but Gboho clears to ease the pressure and is fouled by Dibling in the process.
