The Pittsburgh Steelers have their quarterback for now. In Will Howard and rookie Drew Allar, Mike McCarthy’s team might have the future ironed out, too. Which backup Mason Rudolph on an expiring deal, it’s not certain that he’ll be in the plans going forward.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler believes Rudolph could be traded before next Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline.
“The Steelers are more likely to bring in players at the deadline,” Fowler wrote. “In fact, I don’t expect Pittsburgh to move anyone. But it has a surplus at quarterback, and should more quarterback injuries occur around the league, perhaps teams call on Rudolph with an attractive offer.”
Rudolph has appeared in three games for the Steelers this season, only throwing one pass. He made one start for Pittsburgh last season, trotting out in a road loss to the Chicago Bears as Rodgers nursed a fractured wrist.
One veteran signal-caller has already been swapped before the deadline, with the Arizona Cardinals shipping Jacoby Brissett to the Baltimore Ravens on Wednesday afternoon.
Rudolph has an 8-5-1 record as the Steelers starter, with most of those contests coming in 2019. Neither Howard nor Allar have played in a regular season clash to this point in their careers.
