Agit Kabayel has weighed in on tonight’s fight between Daniel Dubois and Fabio Wardley.
These two British heavyweights were involved in a thrilling 11-round battle earlier in the year. It was Wardley’s first defence, having been elevated to WBO champion once Oleksandr Usyk vacated one of his titles.
The Ipswich man started well and had Dubois down twice early on, and continued to be aggressive and throw big shots through the early part of the fight.
The greater experience of ‘DDD’ showed however and he began to get a hold of the fight with big right hands of his own, eventually bloodying Wardley’s face and forcing him to back down to the point that the referee had to step in and stop the fight with one round to go.
Speaking to Playbook Boxing, Kabayel was asked if he thought it was wise of Wardley to take the immediate rematch.
“For me, you know, I don’t know. When I see Daniel, Daniel was very motivated when I see him with the fight with Hrgovic. Fabio you now, he’s a gentleman; he waits, he watches everything. I think maybe, maybe, maybe, Daniel wins, but this is heavyweight boxing.”
Wardley has vowed to be better in the second fight, while Dubois, who is a two-time world champion having previously held the IBF belt after beating Filip Hrgovic and defending it against Anthony Joshua, has already mentioned he would like to fight Tyson Fury to unify titles if both men come through their next fight.
