Hasan Mahmud bagged a six-wicket haul but West Indies continued to hold the advantage at the end of Day 2 of the second Test in Sylhet. Mahmud's 6 for 90 limited West Indies to a total of 356, but the visitors then reduced Bangladesh to 88 for 3 at Stumps. The hosts, already 0-1 down in the series, were behind by 268 runs and possibly one player short.

Resuming at 235/4, West Indies added 121 runs on Day 2 before being bowled out shortly after Lunch. Jangoo continued his impressive knock, with Greaves providing good support, as the pair brought up a century stand early in the day. Meanwhile, Bangladesh suffered an injury setback in the morning session when opener Shadman Islam twisted his left ankle while attempting to stop the ball at fine leg. He was stretchered off the field and subsequently taken to hospital for an MRI scan and further assessment.

Jangoo and Greaves added 106 for the fifth wicket before Bangladesh struck back with the second new ball. Mahmud dismissed Jangoo and Roston Chase off successive deliveries before coming agonisingly close to a hat-trick. Joshua Bishop survived the appeal through a successful review but was later stumped by Litton Das for 23 in Mahmud's over. Mehidy Hasan Miraz then removed the well-set Greaves for 51, while Mahmud returned after Lunch to dismiss Shamar Joseph and complete his sixth five-wicket haul in Tests.

The innings, however, prolonged thanks to useful contributions from the lower order that pushed the total past 350. The final-wicket pair of Jomel Warrican and Jayden Seales added 33, frustrating the hosts, before Mehidy trapped Seales lbw to wrap up the innings.

Without their regular opener Shadman, Nayeem Hasan walked out to partner Tanzid Hasan Tamim but the opening stand was short-lived. Seales struck to dismiss Nayeem while Tanzid fell to Greaves, leaving Bangladesh in early trouble at 22 for 2. Najmul Hossain Shanto and Towhid Hridoy built a watchful partnership, helping Bangladesh past 50. But Najmul's outing came to an end when he was bowled by Joseph for a 65-ball 18. Mushfiqur Rahim had a lucky break when he was on 10, with the umpire's call saving him from getting out lbw in Warrican's over.

There was help for the bowlers and the batters continued to be tested, even as the floodlights were switched on and the umpires had the light meters out from time to time. Rahim and Hridoy managed a few boundaries and took their stand to 37 but it was mostly slow going for Bangladesh, with bad light eventually ending the day's play.

Brief scores: West Indies 356 (Amir Jangoo 133, Kevin Wickham 61, Justin Greaves 51; Hasan Mahmud 6-90) lead Bangladesh 88/3 (Towhid Hridoy 29*, Mushfiqur Rahim 19*; Justin Greaves 1-10) by 268 runs.
