Napoli will have to rebuild their aging midfield in the next couple of windows, and they are tipped to make an offer to lure Gavi away from Barcelona. The Spaniard has a €40M price tag. He isn’t necessarily considered untouchable by the Blaugrana higher-ups, El Nacional reports (via Calciomercato).
The Catalans are also perennially in need of turning profits to foot acquisitions. The 22-year-old has struggled to gain a regular role so far, making just five appearances off the bench. His ascension has been halted by two serious knee injuries in the last three years. He has registered 10 goals and 18 assists in 171 appearances with his current team.
Napoli are preparing a €30M offer plus €10M add-ons for Gavi. It remains to be seen whether Barcelona will be open to a deal in January and whether they will hold firm on their valuation.
The Azzurri are facing major question marks at the position. Frank Anguissa might leave either in January or once his contract expires in June. Instead, the negotiation to re-up Scott McTominay’s deal is tricky. It could lead to a summer exit. Their director Giovanni Manna dished on the topic on Tuesday to Sky.
“We’re working on it. He has two years left on it, he wants to stay, and we want to keep him. We hope to find a solution, but it has to work out economically too.”
They are a safe bet to sign one or two talented midfielders over the span of the next couple of windows, but, all in all, it’d be surprising if they managed to acquire the Barcelona star mid-season.
