6 standouts from Packers' Week 6 win over the Cowboys

After two consecutive wins against backup quarterbacks, the Green Bay Packers responded with a convincing Week 6 win over the Dak Prescott-led Dallas Cowboys on "Sunday Night Football" from Lambeau Field.

The Packers jumped out to a 17-0 lead before closing out the game 23-13, improving to 4-2 on the year.

Without an effective run game, the Packers’ passing attack carried the offense up and down the field, even though drops were an issue. The defense generated two turnovers and mostly held the Cowboys’ dynamic receiving duo of CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens in check.

Here were the standouts from Green Bay’s most recent win over Dallas:

QB Jordan Love

Don’t let the box score tell you otherwise. Love was great in this game. His pass protection took a step back from the previous two weeks, allowing three sacks and eight hits, and receivers dropped as many as five passes, but Love’s play rarely wavered. He completed big-time throws to Christian Watson and Matthew Golden and performed excellently under pressure and on third down. Love finished with 276 yards, one passing touchdown, one interception, and snuck in his first rushing score of the season. With a little more help from those around him, Love could have thrown for over 300 yards and multiple passing touchdowns. Still, Love played at a high level and has been for the past few weeks.

WR Matthew Golden

Drops and a subjective taunting penalty kept Golden from what would have been a career day, but he showed tremendous resiliency en route to a six-catch day, a game-high 104 receiving yards, and a touchdown that put his team up 7-0 early on. Pro Football Focus officially credited him with three drops, two of which could have been touchdowns, but the second-year receiver stayed locked in, and his quarterback’s confidence in him never wavered. Golden has now gone for 100 receiving yards in back-to-back games, becoming the first Packer to do so since Davante Adams in 2021.

S Evan Williams

There’s no other way to put it: Williams is having an All-Pro-caliber season so far. His second-quarter interception of Prescott showcased his impressive range and game-changing impact. He started at the line of scrimmage, then retreated to the middle of the field to step in front of a pass intended for Lamb and prevent Dallas from scoring after driving to Green Bay’s 17-yard line. In addition to the pick, Williams had six combined tackles, including a tackle on Javonte Williams for no gain on a third-and-4 to force a punt.

CB Brandon Cisse

Green Bay’s highest-drafted rookie entered Sunday’s game allowing a passer rating of 147.4 against his coverage, the fifth-worst among qualified corners. He responded by grabbing his first career interception while covering Lamb. Cisse also added another pass breakup to his stat line and allowed a passer rating of just 20.8 against his coverage in what was easily his biggest test yet. He also stopped a run for just a two-yard gain and a quick pass for two yards, forcing a third-and-long that led to a punt.

Edge Lukas Van Ness

The Packers’ defense didn’t let Prescott establish any rhythm, and Van Ness was the biggest disruptor. He led the team with six pressures and sacked Prescott for a 3-yard loss on first down when Green Bay was up 23-7 in the fourth quarter. The sack put the Cowboys behind the sticks, and they couldn’t recover, turning the ball over on downs three plays later. It had been a quiet few weeks for Van Ness, but he tied his career-high for pressures and is now up to 3.5 sacks in six games.

K Trey Smack

Smack was busier than the team would have liked, but at least half of their offensive drives ended in points. The rookie was a perfect 3-for-3 on field goals for the night, with makes from 25, 29, and 44 yards. He also made both of his extra-point attempts, so he was responsible for 11 of their 23 points. Smack is now 10-for-13 on the season, and on a night when his team needed him to come through, he did.
