Liverpool are eyeing a shock move for a Premier League star, according to reports, with FSG potentially realising the mistake they may have made.
Andoni Iraola's side could be in the market for a new left-sided defender in January with Milos Kerkez struggling for form since his £40million move from Bournemouth in 2025.
Kerkez shared responsibilities with Andy Robertson for the left-back role last season, and although the Scot has since moved on to sign for Tottenham, Kostas Tsimikas has returned from his loan at Roma and came in to start the 3-2 defeat at Fenerbahce on Wednesday.
While Kerkez is still Andoni Iraola's first-choice in that position, the Reds don't appear to be convinced about the Hungarian with alternatives eyed ahead of the January transfer window.
Pundit Alan Shearer certainly isn't, claiming that he believes Robertson is better than both Kerkez and Tsimikas.
Now, according to Swiss outlet 4-4-2.ch, Liverpool are plotting a potential move for El Hadji Malick Diouf at Brentford.

A fee of between £41.7million-£50m has been discussed, though the ex-Slavia Prague man has a contract to run until 2031 and Brentford might want more.
As well as Liverpool, Chelsea are said to be in the market for Diouf, according to the same report, with Xabi Alonso searching for a like-for-like replacement for Marc Cucurella, who left to join Real Madrid in June.
The 21-year-old joined Brentford in a £40m deal from West Ham in August, but has struggled for regular game time since. Indeed, Diouf has started just one Premier League match for the Bees and that came in the 2-2 draw at Aston Villa last month. The Senegalese was an unused substitute in the 2-0 win against Nottingham Forest last time out.
He was a standout performer for West Ham last season, despite the Hammers' relegation from the Premier League. It was no surprise to see him move back to the Premier League in the summer, with Brentford picking up his services despite interest from elsewhere.
But an exit from the Gtech Community Stadium has now been mooted, with Keith Andrews preferring Keane Lewis-Potter and even Aaron Hickey at left-back, meaning Diouf is third-choice.
Did it happen before or after?

Should Liverpool sign Diouf, he would add pace and an extra attacking threat down the left side. His athleticism is his biggest asset, and he is more than capable of getting up and down the flank.
Diouf has a high ceiling, and his former manager Nuno Espirito Santo heaped praise on him during his time at West Ham. “He’s a beautiful player," the Portuguese boss said in November 2025.
"He’s so sensitive, and the way he arrived here - I think he’s living a dream. He has a lot of talent, but he has things to improve. He’s like a diamond you have to polish. We have great responsibilities, but we have to enjoy what we do, and I think Malick does that.”
