San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Mike Evans tried to play through his rib injury and Achilles tendonitis. However, he left just before halftime in the 49ers game last week against the Washington Commanders and will miss this week's game against the Atlanta Falcons.
Before leaving against Washington, Evans caught three passes for 94 yards, his second straight game with at least 90 receiving yards. Through the first six weeks of the season, he led San Francisco in receptions, targets (39), receptions (27), and receiving yards (420). He was second in touchdowns, behind only tight end George Kittle, who has five.
Evans is currently tied with tight end Tony Gonzalez for the ninth-most receiving touchdowns in NFL history. Whenever he is able to return, he just needs one touchdown to have solo possession of ninth all-time. He also needs just six more receiving touchdowns this season to pass tight end Antonio Gonzalez for No. 8 all-time. Evans also has the second-most receiving touchdowns of any active player; only Davante Adams is ahead, with 10 more touchdowns.
