Eli Stowers’ wait is over, and he'll make his NFL debut as the Eagles look for another receiving option.
The rookie tight end is active for Monday night’s matchup against the Cowboys after Philadelphia activated him from injured reserve earlier in the day. The second-round pick had been sidelined with hamstring and quadriceps injuries.
His debut comes with wide receivers DeVonta Smith and Dontayvion Wicks inactive, leaving quarterback Tanner McKee without two important targets. Those absences could give offensive coordinator Sean Mannion opportunities to incorporate Stowers into packages featuring multiple tight ends or use him as an additional receiving option.
Philadelphia also activated Grant Calcaterra from injured reserve, adding depth to a tight end group led by Dallas Goedert. The additions give Mannion more flexibility as he assembles an offensive plan around the available personnel.
Stowers’ role remains to be seen. Being active doesn't guarantee a substantial workload, especially in his first regular-season game after an extended injury absence.
Still, his availability gives the Eagles another player to evaluate and potentially involve as they attempt to end a four-game losing streak. Against Dallas, even a limited contribution could help an offense looking to sustain drives and generate points.
