The 2026 college football season is at its midway point, and many players expected to do well have done so. ESPN released its top-25 college football player rankings and a pair of Georgia Bulldogs landed in the top 20.
Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton made the list at No.13. So far this season, he has 1,570 passing yards and 16 touchdowns to 4 interceptions. One of his best games was against the Alabama Crimson Tide, when he threw for 249 yards and a touchdown against a very good Crimson Tide defense.
"In 2025, Stockton completed 69.7% of his passes and led Georgia to another SEC title through pure, relentless efficiency. This year, he's making a point to look more downfield, and as it turns out, he's great at it. He has gone from averaging 10.8 yards per completion to 13.4, and he has somehow improved his completion rate at the same time. Turnovers were an issue against Auburn in Week 7, but that's not a concern just yet. But the increase in upside has been noticeable."
Georgia linebacker Chris Cole was fourth in the rankings. Cole has 48 solo tackles, 2.5 sacks, 3 pass deflections, and a fumble recovery for a touchdown. Against Oklahoma, Cole had a great performance with eight tackles, a sack, and two fumble recoveries. One of which was returned for a touchdown. Georgia won the game 41-13.
"On a team known for its defense, 6-3, 235-pound Cole has been able to stand out every week with the way he goes after the ball. Watching him move, there's no tackle he can't seem to make and no runner he can't seem to chase down. His combination of size and speed has propelled him into being one of the best defenders in the sport during his third season and a top-10 prospect ahead of next year's draft, according to ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr."
Georgia will need both Cole and Stockton to deliver down the stretch for UGA to return to the College Football Playoff.
