Oliver Bannister is set to feature on television after qualifying for this month’s European Junior Open in Spain.

The tournament, which was first held in 1993, comprises five rounds in Estepona and recorded coverage is aired on Sky Sports.

Bishop’s Stortford Golf Club member Bannister, 16, finished fourth with a six-over-par 76 in the single-round qualifier, which took place in poor weather on Royston Golf Club’s undulating course.

Stockbrook Manor’s Joseph Hutt came first with a round of 73, with Colne Valley’s Austin Willis and Gorleston’s Luca Devine-Rushbrooke one shot behind.

Normally only the top two boys qualify, but the first- and third-placed players had already secured their places at other venues so Bannister claimed a spot.

Scratch golfer Bannister, who attends Birchwood High School, is in good form having won the Hertfordshire Schools Scratch Rose Bowl in October.
