Las Vegas Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty has raised the stakes ahead of their Week 8 game with the New York Jets.
There is no escaping the fact the New York Jets are at a low-point following their loss at home to the previously winless Miami Dolphins.
Now 2-5 for the season, the Jets may have been given some ammunition by an upcoming opponent on the Las Vegas Raiders.
Second-year running-back Ashton Jeanty told The Athletic that he views the Jets as a soft opponent to help them out, suggesting there are players on the team who do not want to tackle.
Jeanty said: “I think we can definitely get the run game going, get back on track and just really get after these guys.
“Couple guys out there that don’t really want to tackle, but I’m not gonna say names.”
Jeanty’s comments could seriously backfire, and rile up the entire New York Jets defensive line.
The Las Vegas Raiders running game has been a disappointment so far this season.
Through the first seven weeks, the Raiders are averaging 74 yards per game on the ground, ranking 31st out of 32 teams.
They have five rushing touchdowns for the season, which ranks 27th in the league.
Klint Kubiak’s offense has been reliant on the pass, and they plan to stick with Kirk Cousins for now, with number one pick Fernando Mendoza waiting in the wings.
Jeanty hopes to get the run game going – but he has made their own task even harder if the Jets take exception to his comments.
