Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard has reunited with two former teammates from his time at Anfield, who both look unrecognizable from their playing days.
The former club captain spent almost his whole career with the Reds, coming through the youth ranks and making an initial impact in 1997, up until his eventual exit in 2015, cementing himself as one of the greatest in the club's history. In that time he progressed from promising youngster to global superstar, from new kid on the block to club captain, and from an ambitious dreamer to a true winner.
Having spent so long with Liverpool, Gerrard saw plenty of teammates come and go, though the likes of Jamie Carragher, Sami Hyypia, and Pepe Reina remained as those he played the most games alongside.
It seems unlikely that he would keep up with the many different stars who have been and gone at Anfield over the years, but the 46-year-old recently caught up with two former stars.
Taking to Instagram, Gerrard posted an update of himself alongside Vladimir Smicer and Patrik Berger, with the trio seemingly meeting up for a game of padel.
Both Smicer and Berger appeared somewhat unrecognizable compared to their playing days, but it would seem as though it was a productive meeting of former players, who could talk over their playing days and what has followed since.
Gerrard played alongside Smicer 133 times in their time together at Liverpool, with the attacking midfielder arriving in 1999 and spending six years with the club.
The 53-year-old is most affectionately remembered for scoring the winning penalty in the Champions League final of 2005, where Gerrard helped inspire the team to come back from three goals down against AC Milan to draw on the night and win in the shootout.
As for Berger, the former Liverpool captain played alongside him 79 times in his career with the Reds, starting the partnership in 1998 and ending that in 2003, when the midfielder left to join Portsmouth.
The Czech pairing certainly had an impact on Liverpool during their spells on Merseyside, with a recent reunion showing that the affection is still there among old teammates.
Since retiring, all three stars have largely continued in roles as ambassadors for clubs, while Gerrard has been the only one to truly test the idea of becoming a manager after trading his soccer boots for a suit and tie.
The Liverpool icon is now more embedded in media work, but that hasn't stopped him from taking the time to catch up with some former teammates.
