New Castleford Tigers boss Paul Rowley has completed his first contract retention whilst at the club, with Jamaican international Ashton Golding agreeing to new terms.
Initially out of contract at the end of 2026 but not included in the club’s released list, Golding joined Akim Matvejev, Liam Hood and Louis Senior in that category, though both Matvejev and Hood have one-year extension options in their contract.
Signing for the club at the beginning of the 2026 season from Huddersfield Giants, the Leeds academy product initially game through the ranks as a full-back, before eventually moving on to the wing and then to the hooker role.
With Cain Robb departing and Hood’s future still up in the air, it looks like it will be he who partners new signing Damien Cook as the club’s two number nines next season.
In a deal that sees him remain in West Yorkshire until 2028, Golding has the feeling of “relief” more than anything to get a new deal over the line.
He told the Castleford club website: “I think having played at Cas now this year, it’s good to get this over the line, and it kind of works for myself and for Castleford.
“…A year ago I left Huddersfield with no contract, and to get another three years in Super League is a blessing, so I’m definitely not gonna take that for granted.”
New boss Rowley is also another key factor in the 30-year-old sticking around.
“I’ve been playing Super League nearly 13 years now, so I’ve played many games against him,” Golding explained.
“I like the way he coaches. I like the style… His track record’s proven that he brings the best out of players. I’m excited to get to work and get my fitness back.
“I’m working quite hard to get back on the fit side of things, and then yeah, just get to work under him. So yeah, I’m quite excited.”
