In the blockbuster AFC battle of Week 8, the Denver Broncos came out victorious with a 28-24 win against the Kansas City Chiefs. Quarterback Bo Nix delivered when it mattered most, leading an incredible fourth-quarter comeback at Empower Field.
The Broncos scored 15 unanswered points in the fourth quarter, with rookie running back Jonah Coleman making a 51-yard catch to set up his go-ahead 5-yard touchdown run.
While the Broncos look balanced on all fronts, former NFL quarterback Russell Wilson believes adding a veteran to the running back room would make the team even stronger.
Wilson believes Taylor would be a difference-making addition to Denver’s backfield and urged the Broncos to pursue him aggressively.
With the November 10 NFL trade deadline approaching, the former quarterback wants head coach Sean Payton and general manager George Paton to make a move.
The Indianapolis Colts running back has been linked to several teams after a fire sale kicked off following GM Chris Ballard’s dismissal. Assistant GM Ed Dodds, who is overseeing the personnel department following Ballard’s dismissal, could look to secure valuable draft assets in return for Taylor.
Wilson believes Taylor would be a great addition to the Broncos’ running back room and that the team can afford to part with a few draft picks to acquire him.
“When I’m thinking about the best teams in the AFC… I think you got the Kansas City Chiefs, who obviously just lost two back-to-back games, losing to Seattle and then losing to the Broncos, but those are tough games,” Wilson explained on the “Set Hut” show.
“The Broncos, though, and we talked about this on set too with the NFL today, if they get another piece, that other piece, I’m just telling you, their running backs did a pretty good job in that game. But that team changes completely if they get a guy like Jonathan Taylor,” Wilson continued. “I’m doing everything I can, if I’m Sean Payton, if I’m George Paton, their GM, who’s a great GM. If I’m him, I’m going after Jonathan Taylor to change this team.”
Taylor is currently under contract with the Colts after signing a $44 million extension in August 2026. Although the star running back has denied requesting a trade, Indianapolis is reportedly seeking premium compensation, with reports suggesting the Colts want a return approaching first-round value.
Taylor has been impressive this season, recording 610 rushing yards on 148 carries and eight rushing touchdowns. He currently ranks No. 16 in PFN’s NFL Running Back Impact Rankings.
J.K. Dobbins and Coleman have both given Denver quality production out of the backfield, but Taylor would represent a different tier of playmaker. Adding a proven feature back of his caliber could give the Broncos another dimension on offense and help them separate themselves from the rest of the AFC, especially if their defense continues to play at a high level.
With a more explosive rushing attack complementing Bo Nix and an already strong defense, Denver could become one of the conference’s most complete teams.
Following their Week 8 win, the Broncos improved to 6-2 on the season. They will next face the Carolina Panthers in Week 9. The game is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff on Sunday, November 8, at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.
