Inside Philadelphia Eagles wild week after offensive line exits and Saquon Barkley rumors

The Eagles traveled over to London last week, going on to sustain a brutal loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, in their third straight defeat which has opened the door to further potential moves

Jordan Mailata described it as 'the week from hell' after seeing two of his best friends leave the team before losing two close games

The Philadelphia Eagles lost their third straight game this past weekend, with some outsiders predicting they'd wave the white flag on the season after consecutive losses... but that does not appear to be the case.

Superstar offensive line Jordan Mailata described the period before their game in London against the Jacksonville Jaguars as 'the week from hell'. This, coming after he saw two of his close friends leave the team, with Lane Johnson shockingly announcing his immediate retirement, Cam Jurgens being traded to the Baltimore Ravens, and losing dramatically to the Los Angeles Rams.

The Eagles flew to London late in the week, already without Saquon Barkley, DeVonta Smith, Jonathan Greenard, Landon Dickerson, and Marquise 'Hollywood' Brown due to injury. They went on to lose the game in crushing fashion, with Jaguars kicker Cam Little nailing a 57-yard field goal with one second left on the clock.

The Eagles have now lost three straight games and are 2-3 after trading away their starting center, and having lost their right tackle to retirement.

The culmination of this has led many to question whether the Eagles could be sellers before the trade deadline, with some even calling into question the futures of Barkley, Jalen Hurts, and head coach Nick Sirianni.

Mirror U.S. Sports spent some time around them while speaking with several players and keeping a close eye on their sideline during the game in London.

Jalen Hurts belief

The Eagles locker room and entire organization is all-in on Jalen Hurts as their long-term quarterback

Although AJ Brown clearly did not, the vast majority of the Eagles' players love their quarterback. He is quite clearly the leader of their team.

When Hurts talks on the sideline, everyone listens. When he said things during the week, his offensive lineman quoted him in press conferences and interviews. Although he appears somewhat stoic, Hurts is emotional on the Eagles' sideline and is the first to motivate his offense before they take the field.

Hurts has not had the best 18 months since winning the Super Bowl, but any talk of him not being their long-term guy should not be taken seriously at this point. It's tough to find any signs of the Eagles even considering looking for another quarterback.

O-line confidence

Johnson is one of the greatest right tackles in NFL history and was a significant leader in the Eagles locker room, making him a significant loss. And while Jurgens has struggled this season, he has been Hurts' snapper for the past three years and impressed in their Super Bowl run.

The Eagles' offensive line has not only lost these two, but also their positional coach, Jeff Stoutland, who was an extremely beloved figure within the locker room. He is also seen as one of the great offensive line coaches of this generation.

Barkley trade unlikely

Ever since the Eagles' loss to the Jaguars, all the talk around Barkley has not been about his imminent return to the team, but how much he could fetch if he were to be traded.

Several posts have gone viral linking Barkley to the Seattle Seahawks, Minnesota Vikings, and Jaguars, but don't count on the team giving Barkley away.

Saquon

Saquon Barkley is being linked with a trade away from the Eagles

The Eagles traded away Jurgens for a second-round pick, a starting player with no real long-term answer to replace him. So quite clearly, general manager Howie Roseman is willing to make moves for the right price. However, it's tough to see a world in which the team gets the draft capital back for what he brings to them.

A second or third-round pick has been discussed as the value for Barkley, but many around the team have indicated how important Barkley is to them, seemingly closing the door on such a deal.

The Eagles have Barkley under contract through the 2028 season, and would have to eat $26 million in dead cap space next year.

If Barkley is to be moved, look for a move happening after June 1 of next year — when the Eagles can trade or cut him while limiting the dead salary cap to just $8 million.
