Under-fire Michael Carrick is expecting Manchester United to find its footing and gave an impassioned press conference ahead of Sunday’s home match with Bournemouth in the Premier League at Old Trafford.

Man United are 13th on the Premier League table and are winless in seven matches across all competitions. They’ve lost to Man City and drawn Fulham, Spurs, and Leeds in the Premier League, lost to Brighton in the League Cup, and lost Atletico Madrid and Como in the UEFA Champions League.

The last loss was bad. Bruno Fernandes and Carrick both had plenty to say about the game, the tactics, and the players.

On Friday, Carrick said plenty more (via manutd.com).

“At the moment, yes, we’re in a moment where it’s not gone well, so we need to show exactly what it means and, you know, respect this football club, respect what it takes to be here, respect what it takes to win, what you have to do to win. I’m not entitled to be here, entitlement cannot be at this football club. We’ve got an incredible past, an incredible history. That doesn’t mean you’re entitled to just win. I’m fully aware that it takes hard work, it takes a lot of sacrifice, you’ve got to invest yourself in the football club and you’ve got to do a lot of things that maybe aren’t so nice, but you’ve got to do it for each other and you’ve got to win. I think it’s important we live up to that and it’s important to push those values and it’s important for our supporters to feel that moving forward.

“We’ve had it, we’ve kind of lost our way a little bit, if I’m totally honest, and we’ll get it back. I’m totally convinced we’ll get it back. I respect this football club, I respect what it takes, because it’s very, very important to me.”

Marco Rose and Bournemouth are vibing despite some domestic struggles.

They smashed AC Milan in the Europa League at the Vitality Stadium 3-0 on Thursday. They’ve also beaten Sturm Graz and Real Sociedad in the UEL.

Bournemouth are 1-3-3 in the Premier League following a win over Sunderland which pulled them out of the bottom three as one of the last teams to snare their first PL win this season.

Manchester United vs Bournemouth team news

Carrick gets center backs Leny Yoro (suspension) and Ayden Heaven (illness) back in the fold after Harry Maguire started with Matthijs De Ligt in the loss at Como. Lisandro Martinez is said to be a doubt due to fitness after speaking out against the club’s transfer activity a few weeks ago, with Marcus Rashford also a fitness doubt.

Patrick Dorgu, Luke Shaw, Kobbie Mainoo, Manuel Ugarte, and Benjamin Sesko remain out of the lineup.

As for Fernandes, Carrick does not seem inclined to punish him for his post-Como outburst... unless the team room is crying out for it.

“Most important for me is the team, first and foremost, the squad and the dynamics in the squad,” Carrick said. “Again, it’s about the football club and I will do what is best for the football club. I’m just saying, whatever the situation, I will do what is best for the football club. If I spoke to him or not, I don’t think this is the time to go into that in much detail.”

For Bournemouth, Alex Scott remains a bit absence and Alex Toth looks set to join him on the sidelines for this weekend.

Eli Junior Kroupi is said to be close to returning from a long-term injury way ahead of schedule. It would be a huge boost, especially if Evanilson is fine after a knock at midweek versus Milan.

Manchester United vs Bournemouth prediction

United is a bit better rested and a lot deeper here. They may concede chances but it’ll be on Bruno Fernandes and Co. to speak loudly after Carrick questioned their effort at Como. Manchester United 2-1 Bournemouth.
