DeMeco Ryans reacts to Texans QB CJ Stroud being named AFC OPOW

After throwing for 312 passing yards and three touchdowns in the Houston Texans’ Week 6 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, quarterback C.J. Stroud was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Year.

It was Stroud’s first time being Offensive Player of the Week since Week 5 of last season. Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans was happy to see the rest of the NFL finally acknowledge how Stroud has been performing all season.

“It's rewarding in the sense of everyone seeing it across the NFL, of what he's been doing, not just us, me talking about it all the time, of how well he's been having an offseason, Training Camp and all the way now to the start of the season,” Ryans said. “It's been that way. He's been doing a great job since he's been back and he's done a great job leading us in the games as well. I'm happy that he's able to get that national recognition that he truly deserves.”

Despite the Texans starting the year 0-4, Stroud has played well all year long. He has the scond-most passing yards and has only thrown on interception all season. Stroud’s performance has finally paid off with wins each of the past two weeks against the Tennessee Titans and Jacksonville Jaguars.

Now, Houston is looking for their first win at home against the New York Giants who are first in the NFC East right now. With the Jaguars on bye, the Texans have a chance to be one win behind Jacksonville in the AFC South race. If they were to make the playoffs this season, it would be the second time in NFL history a team started 0-4 and made it to the postseason.

"You talk about a guy who's been consistent all year, leading the NFL in yards, leading this team to where we need to be at," Texans defensive end Will Anderson Jr. said. "He's playing outstanding. But it starts with his preparation. It starts with his process. You see him every day go through that same process, that same preparation, every day on the field. It's no shocker that when we get in the game, he's making big plays. He's commanding the offense and he's taking over and winning these games for us.”
