The WNBA will see its first ever Finals Game 7 in the history of the league. The Golden State Valkyries and Atlanta Dream are set to decide the championship on Saturday, October 31. The game is to be played in San Francisco at the Chase Center, also known as the Ballhalla.

The 2026 season is only the second season to feature a best-of-seven finals series. The first was the 2025 season, however the Las Vegas Aces were decided as champion after their one-sided sweep in four games.

Ticket prices for the Game 7 are soaring

The seventh game of the WNBA finals is also making history for other reasons, the game is seeing the highest ticket prices ever in the league. According to the New York Post, citing TickPick the cheapest seats are going for $396 in the 21st row. The highest amount is for court-side seats priced at $3,628 each, according to TickPick. The demand remains high as the Atlanta Dream sold out the Game 6 venue with 17,000 seats, despite the game starting at 12:30 pm on a weekday. The Valkyries home game is scheduled for 8 pm ET.

Both teams fighting for their first championship

The Final Game 7 promises to be a thriller as both the Valkyries and the Dream are looking to seal their first-ever WNBA championship. The Valkyries could have taken the title during Game 6 on October 29, however, Dream, playing at home, forced them to play another game. The Dream won 80-69 in the sixth game for the final. The Valkyries have had the perfect first two seasons, since it started playing in 2025 by reaching the playoffs in both.

However, the Atlanta team is also not ready to back down after a formidable performance in Game 6. Dream’s Angel Reese said after the game, “The job is not done, and I’m looking forward to it…One more”.

How did WNBA arrive at a 7-game Finals?

Since the league began in 1997, it has tried and tested several formats for the championship. The first championship was won with a singular finals game. The Houston Comets won the first championship in their match up against New York Liberty.

The WNBA then switched to a three finals series from 1998 which remained in place until 2004. Later in the 2006 season the league began to play a best-of-five finals series, which remained its go to till 2024, when New York Liberty took the game into overtime and won their first ever championship. Since then the WNBA has adopted a best-of-seven format for the championship.
