For the first time in the Dan Lanning era, the Oregon Ducks are no longer part of the US LBM Coaches Poll.
On Sunday morning, following a 21-10 loss to the Illinois Fighting Illini — Oregon's third loss of the season — the Ducks dropped out of the poll. They were previously ranked No. 25 following a close win over the Nebraska Cornhuskers in Week 7.
Oregon was knocked out of the Associated Press Top 25 earlier this season following their loss to the UCLA Bruins at home, but they remained on the edge of the coaches' poll. Now, though, with a 4-3 record and a lot of questions about the roster and coaching staff, their ranking has vanished entirely.
There will be opportunities for the Ducks to move back up in the rankings, with ranked matchups against the No. 18 Northwestern Wildcats and No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes in the coming weeks. However, their College Football Playoff hopes have all but evaporated before the calendar turns to October, which is another first in the Lanning era.
Going into Week 9, the Ducks open as small favorites over Northwestern at home.
