Denver Broncos rookie running back Jonah Coleman came back with a vengeance, and in doing so, may have just solidified himself as the Broncos' top running back after a 28-24 win over the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 8.
Coleman has been nominated for the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week award after having 104 total yards of offense (41 rushing, 63 receiving) and a rushing touchdown against Kansas City. Coleman's outburst comes just two weeks after coming off the injured reserve with a high ankle sprain, which caused him to miss Weeks 3-6.
Most of Coleman's receiving yards came on a 52-yard screen pass on the play immediately following Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker missing a field goal, which kept the score at 24-21 ahead of the two-minute warning. The play after the two-minute warning, Coleman scored the go-ahead touchdown, which ended up being the final score.

After the game, Coleman talked about his performance, deflecting praise from himself to God, his teammates, his coach and fans.
"First, I just want to give glory to God, giving us this opportunity to come out here and play the game we love," Coleman said. "It was just all about going hard for one another. Coach [Sean Payton] said it was going to be a fourth-quarter game and it’s hard to play at Mile High when they got the crowd rocking like how they [were]. Broncos Country showed up today. It helped us get that win. It was good to just go out there and punch in the game-winner and rely on the defense and allow them to dominate like they’ve been doing all year.”
Coleman has fast become a fan favorite after Denver drafted him in the fourth round of the 2026 NFL draft in April. During the pre-draft process, Coleman said the Broncos were the team he wanted to come to, calling it the "highlight" of his pre-draft process.
After Sunday's win, Coleman talked about the emotions he felt during his career-high game on Sunday.
"It was definitely all over the place," Coleman said. "Like I said, glory be to God, he allowed me to do what I love. I just got to give a shoutout to my O-line and my teammates for keeping the confidence up the whole game. The game didn’t go our way the whole entire game until the fourth quarter. I went up to all the O-linemen and the receivers and the defense [saying] ‘It’s going to be a four-quarter game,’ like Coach [Payton] said, just to remind them it’s not over. So when the fourth quarter hit, that’s when the spark just lit up in the whole team.”
In part due to his performance, Coleman may take even more carries from the veteran J.K. Dobbins during RJ Harvey's absence on the injured reserve.
