Leeds United are set to face Manchester United tomorrow afternoon at Elland Road with the West Yorkshire-based outfit aiming to continue their good start to the season.
Under the management of Daniel Farke, Leeds have picked up nine points from their opening six Premier League games and were narrowly beaten by champions Arsenal at Emirates Stadium last Saturday.
At home, the Whites remain undefeated with the side winning once and drawing the other two of their three league home fixtures in the campaign thus far.
It strikes a dark contrast with Manchester United, who have won just one league game all season (Ipswich Town at home).
Michael Carrick, under pressure following Tuesday’s defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, faces a huge task against Leeds tomorrow.
That task will not be made any easier by news that Leeds United and Daniel Farke have reached an agreement in principle over a new three-year contract extension, according to Beren Cross of The Athletic.
The extension will keep the German at the club until 2029 and, whilst the specifics of the deal still need to be agreed according to Cross, it appears that Farke’s future is with Leeds.
His current extension with the Whites was due to expire at the end of this season with the manager facing questions about his future in press conferences so far this season.
This news comes as a major boost for Leeds’ prospects in future seasons, and will likely liven the home crowd even more for tomorrow’s visit of Manchester United.
With Elland Road due to be deafening, Michael Carrick’s side will arguably have to play against Leeds’ players and their crowd.
If Carrick’s men can overcome that challenge, and take three points back to Manchester with them, it will likely be a result that is looked back on at the end of this season.
Defeat in this game could leave Manchester United and Michael Carrick looking at more questions to answer, though.
