The Dallas Cowboys finally had something to feel good about after beating the rival Philadelphia Eagles in Week 7. But that momentum didn’t last long. Dallas blew a 14-point fourth-quarter lead against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday and came away with a 33-30 loss, dropping to 3-5.
The collapse didn’t sit well with former NFL running back Damien Harris, who had some pointed words for Dak Prescott and the Cowboys’ lack of leadership.
Dallas looked to be in control after a strong first half against Arizona, but everything fell apart after the break as the Cardinals put up 27 points in the final two quarters.
The Cowboys still had a 14-point cushion in the fourth quarter, yet somehow let the game slip away. It was the first time this century that Dallas had lost a home game after leading by at least 14 points in the fourth quarter.
Harris clearly wasn’t impressed with the collapse and didn’t hold back when questioning Prescott’s leadership.
“The Cowboys are a joke,” Harris said via “NFL on CBS.” “This team, this organization, the quarterback, the head coach, everybody. It is a joke… They allowed over 500 yards of offense to Gardner Minshew in combination with Jacoby Brissett… It’s time for us to start making Dak Prescott take accountability. Where is the leadership?”
The Cowboys gave up 467 total yards to the Cardinals, including 265 passing yards and 202 on the ground.
Harris went on to say he wants to see Prescott take charge on the field and demand more from the players around him.
“I don’t see the leadership on the football field. I don’t see [Prescott] grabbing a guy like George Pickens and saying, ‘Yo, where you at? Where you at? I need you right now.’ Where is that type of accountability from Dak Prescott?” asked the analyst.
Harris also argued that Prescott should be using his position to demand accountability throughout the franchise, including from Jones.
“There’s nobody in this locker room who can walk up to Jerry Jones the way that Dak Prescott can,” the former RB said.
He also questioned Prescott’s performance against Arizona, arguing that the quarterback and his top receivers failed to step up when the Cowboys needed them most.
“We expected to meet Dak. In games like this, he disappears. The numbers weren’t spectacular today. CeeDee Lamb, an all-world receiver. In games like this, where are you? You don’t show up. You disappear. George Pickens has checked out. This team plays like they’ve already been eliminated from the playoffs.”
Prescott finished the game 19-of-29 for 195 yards and a touchdown. He also added 20 rushing yards and another score on seven carries, but took four sacks against Arizona. He currently ranks No. 12 in the league with a PFN QB Impact Score of 79.6.
The Cowboys still have a chance to make a run at the NFC East title, though.
Three of their next four games are against the Indianapolis Colts, Tennessee Titans and Philadelphia Eagles. That stretch gives Prescott and Dallas a chance to put Sunday’s collapse behind them and show they can still compete.
