Texas A&M's recruiting class suffered a massive loss on Sunday, with five-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews decommitting from the Aggies, according to Steve Wiltfong of Rivals.
His decommitment comes on the heels of Texas A&M's 17-9 loss to the South Carolina Gamecocks, their fifth loss in their past seven games. Matthews committed to the Aggies on May 15, picking them over a final group that included the Miami Hurricanes, LSU Tigers, and Georgia Bulldogs.
Matthews is from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and the Hurricanes appear to be the likely landing spot. He is ranked as the No. 2 overall player and No. 1 offensive tackle in the Rivals industry ranking.
His departure has caused Texas A&M's 2027 recruiting class to fall to second in Rivals' ranking, with Miami moving to No. 1. The Aggies still have 23 commitments, including three five-star prospects in safety Kamarui Dorsey, interior offensive lineman Kennedy Brown, and linebacker Kaden Henderson.
While he is a big blow, they still have one of the top offensive line recruiting classes in the country. In addition to Brown, they have commitments from four-star offensive tackles Kaeden Scott and DeMarrion Johnson.
