The Los Angeles Rams are onto their third kicker of the 2026 season. After releasing Harrison Mevis and losing Blake Grupe to a torn ACL, the Rams signed veteran Brandon McManus. McManus found early career success with the Denver Broncos, being a member of the team from 2014-2022, before playing on the Jacksonville Jaguars, Washington Commanders, and Green Bay Packers in various stints since.
Here are five things to know about the Rams' new kicker.
Before the Broncos went on a decade-long playoff drought that lasted after McManus' departure, he won Super Bowl 50 with the team. During that playoff run, McManus hit all 10 field goal attempts and was perfect in point-after attempts.
While most NFL teams are able to hit kicks from 60 yards and beyond, McManus has never been that type of player, using his consistency with shorter kicks and point-after attempts to sustain his impressive career. At 35, McManus has a career-long of 61 yards, which came in. 2021. He's 51-for-90 all-time in kicks over 50 yards. He's 11-for-18 over the last three seasons, but hasn't hit a field goal over 56 yards in that timeframe.
In 2025, McManus made all 18 field goal attempts inside of 40 yards, while going 6-for-12 from everything beyond. He was nearly perfect on all extra points, going 32-for-33 in 14 games played. His 80% rate of hitting field goals was a sharp drop from the 95.2% accuracy rate he put up in 2024, but he also attempted nine more field goals and played three more games.
That 85.7% occurred during the Broncos' 2015 championship run, while his 95.2% season in 2024 appears to be a statistical anomaly. McManus has a career make percentage of 82%, and when he's asked to kick field goals 30 or more times in one year, he's always missed at least five of those attempts.
The good news is that since 2019, outside of that shortened 2024 season, McManus has also scored over 100 points in every season.
It's been stated multiple times that Sean McVay and Packers head coach Matt LaFleur are good friends, and it's clear they have a shared mindset when it comes to the game of football. They have also shared kickers over their time as head coaches.
During his time with Green Bay, LaFleur has used six different kickers. Three of them were with McVay at some point. McManus became the latest, after Packers legend Mason Crosby signed with the Rams' practice squad for a week in 2023.
The reason Crosby never played for the Rams in the regular season is that Lucas Havisik won the starting job. Havisik would join the Packers in 2025, playing in three games for the team.
