Tottenham Hotspur will finally be looking to end their winless start to the Premier League season on Monday evening when they entertain Frank Lampard’s Coventry City.

For the second match in a row, Roberto De Zerbi’s side dominated the first half of a match, but could not put the ball in the back of the net against Manchester United at Old Trafford. The North Londoners suffered a setback when Manchester United scored against the run of play, and their woes deepened after Rodrigo Bentancur was sent off for violent conduct.

However, Tottenham managed to salvage a point with 10 men thanks to an injury-time header by Dominic Solanke. De Zerbi will want his boys to build on the performance at Old Trafford when they take the pitch next week.

Roberto De Zerbi provides Tottenham squad injury update ahead of Coventry City visit

The Italian tactician has confirmed Tottenham will be without Savio and Lucas Bergvall for the clash with Coventry City.

Savio picked up a muscle injury before Spurs travelled to Marbella for a training camp and is expected to be sidelined for several weeks. Lucas Bergvall is also set for a spell out after hurting his knee in the opening minutes against Man United but managed to complete the game.

“Unfortunately, Savio on Tuesday, before we left for Marbella, felt a muscular problem and we’ve lost him for some weeks,” Roberto De Zerbi told the club’s official website.

“Lucas had a problem at the beginning of the game in Manchester, the first chance we created with Solanke, when he regained the ball, his knee… he felt pain. He finished the game, but the day after, (last) Sunday, he came to the training ground to see our medical staff. I think two weeks.”

De Zerbi also offered an update on Pedro Porro, who suffered a hamstring injury in the 3-2 home defeat to Aston Villa before the September international break. This ruled him out of Spain’s Nations League matches during the international break. The 27-year-old did not make the squad for the game against Man United, but De Zerbi is hopeful of having him back against Chelsea next weekend.

“I think he’s coming – maybe in Chelsea he can play,” he added.

Big setbacks ahead of Coventry City’s visit

Spurs simply cannot stay injury-free for one reason or the other. Losing Savio and Bergvall for weeks are double blows for De Zerbi, especially after the duo delivered strong performances in the 1-1 draw with Man United.

Bergvall was a part of the midfield setup that ran the show at Old Trafford, while Savio was a constant pest for the hosts with his dribbling, directness and unpredictability. With Bentancur also suspended, the door opens for Mateus Fernandes to start alongside Sandro Tonali at the heart of Tottenham’s engine room and impress.

Meanwhile, Kudus should be the natural replacement for Savio on the right flank. This would allow De Zerbi to hand Mathys Tel a start on the left flank, with Omar Marmoush playing off Solanke up top against Coventry.
