Celtic have been without Cameron Carter-Vickers against Motherwell and Benfica, and Martin O’Neill has now answered the question of when the defender could return.
The Bhoys face Hearts at Celtic Park this afternoon where nothing but a win will do for the 60,000 fans heading to Parkhead.
The Celtic manager was also asked about Mika Baur, who came off during Thursday night’s 4-1 defeat in Lisbon, with Hearts next up at Parkhead.
Sky Sports Scotland asked O’Neill whether Carter-Vickers would be back for Sunday’s meeting with Hearts.
He said: “No, I don’t expect that. I think next week, the Hibs game, is the earliest we will probably see him.”
That rules Carter-Vickers out of the Hearts match and Thursday’s Europa League clash with Celta Vigo as O’Neill’s defensive worries continue.
O’Neill revealed earlier this week that Carter-Vickers was suffering from a hamstring strain.
Dane Murray has started Celtic’s last two matches in his absence, partnering Liam Scales against Motherwell and Auston Trusty in Lisbon.
Baur suffered a dead leg against Benfica and was replaced by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain shortly before the hour mark.
O’Neill said: “Mika had a dead leg at the time. We’ll see how he is this morning. I’m sure he will want to play if he’s properly fit.”
Baur has not been ruled out of Sunday’s match, with O’Neill waiting to see how he recovers.
