LARGE crowds have turned out for three Fermanagh GAA consultations as members are given the opportunity to discuss the proposed Ashwoods development and the future of Gaelic football.
With one meeting remaining, the evenings have provided a platform for members to hear about developments and contribute to discussions on the challenges facing the association.
The proposed Ashwoods development, including the future of the existing county facility at Lissan, has been a key item on the agenda.
Members have been given information on the need for the project, its intended benefits, progress to date and plans submitted to Fermanagh and Omagh District Council.
The financing, management and operation of the proposed development have also been discussed.
Topics for discussion
Population projections for club catchments areas have provided another focus for discussion with members considering the implications for participation, player development and facilities.
The meetings have offered an update on the work of Fermanagh’s Football Review and Performance Workgroup, which is carrying out a review of the game at club and inter-county level.
The Workgroup is examining competition structures, fixtures, pathways from underage to adult, coaching and player development, and how Fermanagh compares with counties of a similar size.
Engagement with clubs and key stakeholders remains central to the process, with members encouraged to highlight what is working well and identify areas where improvements could be made.
Fermanagh GAA has urged clubs to ensure a broad range of members are represented, including officers, coaches, players, parents and volunteers.
The final consultation meeting will take place at Melvin Recreational and Resource Complex in Garrison on Monday, November 9, beginning at 7.30pm.
The meeting is for members of Belcoo, Derrygonnelly, Devenish and Erne Gaels.
