The first-ever edition of the ICC Women’s Champions Trophy will take place from February 14 to 28 in India next year. The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed the venues for the tournament on September 2. The series was originally set to take place in Sri Lanka, but it has eventually been shifted to India.
Bangladesh and South Africa were the other contenders to host the series, but in the end, India was selected as the replacement host. Australia, England, India, New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka are qualified for the T20 format tournament. The matches will be held at Mumbai's Cricket Club of India (CCI) and at the Vadodara International Cricket Stadium.
Ahead of the 2027 Women’s Champions Trophy, the bilateral T20I series will provide both Sri Lanka and England cricket teams a stage to get prepared for the event. As the Champions Trophy matches will be played on Indian soil, the England Women's team will get an idea of the subcontinent conditions through the series against the Lankans.
Last time they faced each other in the opening fixture of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, England emerged as the winner. With a match-defining century by Danni Wyatt-Hodge and some brilliant bowling spells, England got a massive 87-run victory in the match. Despite not having the home ground advantage, they will be the favourite to win the series in Sri Lanka. In the Champions Trophy too, England will be one of the serious contenders to reach the final.
Recently, England women's team handed Ireland Women's National Cricket Team a whitewash in a three-match ODI series. With Charlie Dean as the skipper, the England team displayed a well-rounded performance with both bat and ball in all three matches against Ireland. They will be tested heavily during their series against Australia.
